What is the best way to degrease/prep to paint the engine bay?
I just pressure washed it, and plan on painting soon. What is the best way to degrease / prep for paint?
Thanks, Steve.

I'd recommend getting some Marine Clean by the makers of POR-15. That stuff rocks for degreasing and cleaning.

Gut everything that you possibly can, then get some engine degreaser and hose the whole engine compartment with it. Rent an 11hp pressure washer for a day and rinse the degreaser off with that. Degrease and rinse again, then degrease and rinse one more time. The pressure washer is amazing, you don't have to scrub a thing, it blows off every bit of everything, just be careful because you can really do some damage with it. I didn't have to touch anything with a scrub brush.

If your going to paint it then use oven cleaner. It will strip most of the paint off too! Just don't get it anywhere you don't intend to repaint. Works friggin great!

I used simple green and washed it 4 or 5 times. Before you start your sanding go over everything with a good wax and grease remover, you don't want to take a chance and find out when you paint that you missed a spot. You can buy a 3" da sander from most paint supplie houses and a 2" pad that will interchange to make the sanding alot easer. I just finished painting mine the same color as the vette in a base coat clear coat . I probable have well over 100 hrs in prep work. good luck and let us know how it comes out  [URL][/ http://www2.freepichosting.com/Images/37218/0.jpgURL] http://<a href="http://www2.freepich...7218/3.jpg

I second the Simple Green route...spray it on, give it some time, then hose it off.

I used Gunk for the first pass, pressure washed it off, and then put Simple Green through a pressure washer. Borrowed an electric unit from a friend and it made enough pressure to blast most everything loose. The only thing it left was the factory undercoat (where the undercoat had not hardened, that is).
That was the day my car fell off the jack stands! Be careful out there.

What's the easiest way to remove the gunk GM puts around the grommets in the firewall?
