Floor Pan rust on my 81...what to use on it?
Well the carpet and padding are out and this is what I found. www.angelfire.com/al/swhite7/interior.html. I was thinking of using a good primer on the rust and then some rubberized undercoating before I put the heat barrier material down. I was wondering what everyone else has used on theirs when they had this problem. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

what he said. :iagree:
I have too much rot in mine, so I'll weld in some metal. Then it gets the POR-15 treatment.

Here's what I found in mine.. YUCK!
I did a lot of wire brushing and some grinding, ended up fixing some tears and pinholes but nothing really major. I was lucky, the floor was in a pretty solid state, no need to weld in new sections.
After completely cleaning the thing up I sprayed it with rust inhibitant paint (zinc stuff)
Don't look at all the dents, that's my doing to fit the ZF and I didn't care about it being bubba type work there (can't really hammer too much on it since it's stamped, you'll tear it really quick)
I finished it off w/ another spray of POR15, this will never rust again.
The hole is for the shifter
I did the bottom with several coats of POR15:

I had some rust similar to yours from water leak and I descaled and used several layers of fiberglass mat down over entire floorpan area before installing heat/sound barrier. Should floor ever get more water in it the fiberglass will be a rustproof barrier.

yeah, the top pics are removed from frame and firewall removed. Notice the nice amount of damage to the pass. side front body mount area (wrecked rail)
My firewall was a complete mess too, lots of cracks, pieces missing. Since i couldn't get a replacement I fiberglassed the thing together again,. left of some bits and pieces, chopped it up here and there and made most of it smooth. It was a lot of work and I'm not even finished.
The previous owner bubba-ed it back together witha lot of bondo.
