Update on the $2,000 75 L-82
Update on the $2,000 75 L-82 Vette
I picked the vette the other day and had it towed to a garage that my family and I have been doing business since I can remember. Here is the load-down on the work need to safety and to make it a good daily driver
1) Minor Brakes job all around ( Pads & Machine Rotors)
2) Replace rear brake line leaked at fittings
3) Replace emergency brake cables, shoes were good
4) Replace lower ball joints and re-align front and rear
5) Replace valve cover gaskets
6) Tune-up replaced spark plugs only, adjust Q-Jet
7) Had engine compression checked Normal readings all pistons with-in range
8) Tack does not work, wiring seems ok (fix latter)
9) Changed all fluids including auto-trans, rear-end etc etc
According to the mechanic the frame looks solid no sign of damage or repairs, he noted that the vette was oil spread that may be the reason for the frame and all other steel brackets begin in such good shape. Once the work was complete the entire undercarriage was power washed. With my permission the mechanic is driving the vette home to really give it a nice run and tomorrow he will do a final check and look for oil leaks and if everything is ok he will then spray the vette with a light oil and he also said he will do the oil spray in the doors. This should lube everything and keep it from rusting.
So far I paid 2,000 plus around another 1,000 for the above work. The interior looks real good just a good clean. My other expense will be a new paint job nothing fancy I just want something that looks presentable. Will let you know what the body shop says in a few weeks. I just want to enjoy driving the sucker, just like the good old days. I always loved the C3’s

Not too bad for a $2k car. Actually probably excellent. I have done all of that to my car and I gave way more than that. I try to do all of my own work so I would have tried all of what you had done but it would have taken me a whole lot longer and I would still be wrenching on it right now instead. Lets hope it comes back from the mechanic ready to go.

WOW that is excellent. Sounds like you got a good deal there. Even with a paint job, you should have a great daily driver or you could turn it into a classic. '75's were not a real desireable car (lack of HP) but the L-82's were rare (2,372) compared to only other option that year (L-48).
Did you say it had original engine? And that tach not working, 2 words - circuit board. First year for electic tach and common failure is circuit board. Back side of tach, about $60.

What are they useing for the oil spray, will it pick up more dirt with it on,
and how long the spray will last till it needs another treatment?
I might want to do that on my car, I live in a rain forest. Mahalo.

Re: Update on the $2,000 75 L-82 (flood)
No flame, mind you, but only 1057 4-speeds produced that year. If about 1000 of them were in L-48 cars, that make the L-82 with 4-speed even more rare!!
Another little fact (according to black book, which is not to say it's gospel), last line under options area says "M21 (4-speed trans.) was no cost but required optional L-82". What's up with that, flood? I see that your car is a 4-speed L-48.
Not doubting your car, but I must not be reading that right. Does that mean to get a 4-speed, you had to order L-82? Obviously not.

Sounds like you bagged a dream. Be sure and give her a nice $5,000 paint job to make up for the cheap cost of getting her on the road.

Are you sure about the 4 speed production numbers? My 75 L82 is a 4 speed and I know of couple of L48 4 speeds around here.
I never really bother with numbers so thats why I'm surprised to read this.

It would have been nice it GM had kept records better after the move to BG, but I have heard that because of the move, some records were either destroyed of lost and we will never know the real numbers.
Black book says 38,465 Vettes produced ('75)
Under options, M40 Turbo-Hydra-Matic = 28,473 (could be either in L-48 or L-82)
M21 (4-speed close ratio) = 1,057 (M21 was only available with L-82)
Now, the question that remains is what were the other 8,935 tranmissions (obviously M20 4-speed wide ratio) put in, L-48's or L-82's.
Could be a mixture of both, but will never really know exactly unless someone has the records to prove the numbers.
But there are more like 10,000 4-speeds out there originally than just 1,000.
Any way you can check out if your vette is a wide ratio 4-speed or close ratio 4-speed? Do you have the build sheet?

Sounds like you got a great deal. Post pictures as soon as you can. I'll be interested (and jealous) of what 2K will buy! Enjoy!

According to the NCRS 68-82 Specification Guide there were 1057 M21 transmissions available on L82 only and 8935 M20's making up the remainder.

Hmm, i am looking at a 1975 project. It has a t-10 4speed. I am more of a chrome bumper guy so i don't really know what was correct for that year car. I was under the impression that they had stopped using the muncie by then?
