Bought '98 Lincoln Mark VIII LSC; selling '87 Vette conv.....
Ok, this is my first "Off Topic" topic I have posted in the C3 forum.... No more after this!!
I decided on this '98 Lincoln because it has only 39K miles, 290 horse, DOHC 4.6 liter V-8, and the fact that it was well taken care of by the previous owners.... they have a new Aviator and a year-old Town Car- so I know I bought from the right people!!
Anyway, I know it's a Ford but I am one of the rare people out there that like both Makes.....
What do you guys think of this coupe?

You are going from a vette to a MarkVIII? Good luck that boat is a completely different machine. It is made for the over 70 set who no longer have driving skiils but still need something to protect them from themselves.
Only kidding but you are talking about going from a sport car to basic transportation. You may as well have bought their Town Car and put a meter in it. I think you are going to be very disappointed in the change.

I really like the Mark. I've always like Lincolns, and I'm only 31. How much for the Vette?

Re: Bought '98 Lincoln Mark VIII; selling '87 Vette conv..... (BUGGSY1970)
Buggsy1970,
I bought this Mark for that very reason. The guy I got it from is 73!!! It has low miles on it and is a very sporty car with alot of luxury. Something different for sure. My first choice was a '98-99 C5 conv like GRANDSPORT but I didn't want to stretch the $$$$, so I will be satisfied with this luxury car for now and hope to get my '87 to someone who wants to fix it up an enjoy an '80's Corvette conv.
I will miss the '87- no doubt there. That car is the BEST handling car I have ever driven and I am hoping that the C5's are even better when I get into one of them down the road.
Remember, I still have the '74 which I will continue to spend time on!! That car will never be sold!!
I just need a reliable daily driver with some style!
Joeveto- once I get the '87's brakes and other misc things done, I will probably part with it between $8200-9000 or so.... It does have a new GM 350 shortblock with a valve job on the L-98 heads last June.... I just can't see spending more $$ on it as a daily driver... Someone out there will though!!!

 pardon the hijack. :grouphug:
How did you like the '87 mainenance wise? I would like to get an early to mid 90's C4 as long as It won't end up a money pit much like the '74

74FLCONV,
Hey now-- I didn't give up Corvettes.... just the daily driver.
You're are right on in your quote- there are TWO Golf club stickers on the pass side windshield for "Ganey Ranch Golf Club" and "Phoenix Country Club" (Phoenix, AZ)!!
I didn't expect everyone or anyone to agree with my decision. It's like the honda guys in the kill section trying to convince Corvette owners that Hondas are faster and better... I wasn't trying to convince anyone that this car was better; just that I made the choice to do so....
The '74 is my project and will always keep it.....

Re: Bought '98 Lincoln Mark VIII; selling '87 Vette conv..... (VETDRMS)
Thanks, VETDRMS!!!
I would suggest buying the newest C4 you can.... My '87 isn't too bad- it just needs a new leather-wrapped steering wheel, maybe some carpet, the leather seats re-upholstered, and some other minor things done to bring it back in "reconditioned state". If I was going to keep it, I would buy the original wheels, have a new top put on, and get some of that interior work done as well..
It's got 120K on it now and who know how much longer that auto trans is going to hold on.... things like this made me decide on buying something else.....
The electronic dash is in excellent shape and everything in the car works except the cruise and the driver's side electric door lock switch (I plan to fix it).
Why not try something new? I had an '86 Mark VII and it was probably the best car I have owned. I am 31 years old also and appreciate the Lincoln automobiles when I don't have to pay $40K for a new one but can acquire one that is 5 yrs old for under $20K is excellent shape with 39K miles....
Jeez, I could have almost bought a new Nissan Altima for what I dropped on the Lincoln but there was NO WAY I would settle for that over an American Luxury car...
Thanks for helping me try and post those pics up.... I don't know why they didn't work!

Bob,
Wasn't quite disagreeing with you...just your choice of descriptors! I never thought of the Lincoln MkVIII as a "sporty" car, but that sounds as how an err..."older" gent might describe their Lincoln. However...I discovered you're younger than me!!! Oh, well...to each his own.
Best regards,

Hey Bob.
Save yourself a lot of headache, and sweat. Before you do all that work to your 87, give it to me
I will take good care of it for you.... :auto: :D

Re: Bought '98 Lincoln Mark VIII LSC; selling '87 Vette conv..... (Bob Turner)
GREAT CHOICE.
The Mark series are the only Fords besides old 'Stangs that I really like. Anyone who says it is a grocery getter is just jealous of the fact that you have a classy looking car that rides like a caddy, handles as good as a C3, has more POWER than most C3s, and gets decent milage, too. Enjoy it!
I'm an even bigger fan of Buick Rivieras (I own a 93', black/graphite, 136K miles). Oh, and I'll be 21 years old in June.
