Do you ever get embarrassed of your C3 ???
Lets all be honest, we grown men & women who spend an inordinate amount of time repairing and driving 30 year-old cars. Is this normal???
Now before you flame me, please understand I love fixing and driving my car and always will. Some people love to see these cars driving around and appreciate them for the work and care involved.
But, "other people" do not. Once I took my C3 to the local library. This was a bad idea (Flowmaster 40s). Everybody was staring at me like I was a man with serious issues who should be lying on some doctors leather couch for an hour every week. I felt like pushing my car out of the parking lot. :bb
Anybody else ever have any "uncomfortable" moments like this one?
btw, still have the 40s :yesnod:

I have yet to participate in a car show, because my vette's paint looks like crap, and since it's a vette it should be perfect...

my car sets off car alarms (warning blips and full out alarm mode) and roars when I get on it. As my girlfriend described it, telling me she wanted a car that growls like a big cat, and I say "mine growls", she replies "your car just roars, like some kind of evil, demented cat." Yes, I'm happy with it :-D

I have many times wondered why I drive the '69. It is too loud for my own tastes with the open headers and sidepipes sans mufflers. One of these days I'll decide which mufflers to put in. Hopefully, that will quiet it down a bit and I wont be as embarassed to drive it. It's fun to drive, but I certainly don't drive it because it's loud.

Sure. Usually when people ask me about how fast it is. They all just assume it's some sort of monster. I also get a little uneasy when I try to explain why certain things are the way they are, and why something doesn't work. My speedo lights have been half out (now completely) so I had to drive it with a flashlight between my legs and aimed at the speedo for my night driving (the angles are strangely perfect though). If stuff like that doesn't work right I don't see how I could take a lady out in it. Luckily (or is it unluckily?) that that will probably not happen for a while. shootit! :mad

Common sense to me says I do not take my vette to places it is probably not welcome with sidepipes.
1) All Ford Car Show(sidepipes or not)
2) Church Parking Lot on Sunday
3) Library(Shhhh!!)
4) Funeral
5) Iraq
6) Masters Golf Tournament Tee Box or Green(any hole)
Otherwise, everyone I run into thinks it's pretty cool to see one of these cars being taken care of.... loud or not.

i wish mine was louder. loud is good :D
the only thing at the moment that i don't like about mine is i am getting some squeaks from the brakes now. my right rear rotor squeaks all the time now at slower speeds, so it really annoys me when i have to pull out of the school parking lot at 10 mph with SQUEAK SQUEAK SQUEAK SQUEAK coming from my vette. gotta resurface those rotors....

The only time she embarrassed me was when I unwittingly made my vented fuel system unvented. The pressure buildup shot gas past the needle and seat and flooded the engine, putting us on the side of the road for a few minutes. Happened a number of times before I got her home.

My car is loud and abnoxious, I'm not embarassed over it though. However today I was embarassed with it. It threw a belt and I was stuck at the side of the road (I had a spare belt in the glove box). I had a car drive by and rev his motor at me  and a couple beeped at me.

I'm with Bence on this one. If everything is working the way it should (I'm not sure I've experienced that yet, I hear it's really cool), I'm fine.
But when I have to pull over to the side of the road because I think I hear something, or for some other godforsaken reason, I'm embarrassed. The worst, was when I first bought it, and the headlights didn't work. Being out on a date with my wife, and having to get out of the car to manually raise the headlights is awful.
But there are much worse things in life.

Only when it's puking, coughing, barfing and backfiring it's way down the quarter mile to a 16 second run.
But it made up for it in the next run and did a 14.5 with just one adjustment.
