Edelbrock 420 HP Performer Kit, is it worth it?
I am in the process of upgrading my engine, the bottom end has been rebuilt so now I need to build up the top end. Thinking of purchasing the Edelbrock heads, cam, intake and carb. Im using the P/Ns from there website that dyno's at 420. Is anyone else running this kit? The price is around 1500 bucks for everything, or is there a better way to go? Suggestions please.
Thanks

It's great if your engine lives in the 5000+ RPM range. It takes that kind of R's to achieve 420 HP. Check there graph. For what its worth. :flag

:iagree:
my desktop dyno shows peak HP@6000 and peak TQ@5000 contrary to above post. other people who have run these through realtime dynos also had similiar output.

this is even with a few things limiting in the dyno specs, so expect even more power.
I'm running it....no complaints here. and shortblock is stock.

I have a Turbo 400 with a 2500 stall and running 373 gears. What stall should I be running?
Again thanks for all the input. 1500 bucks is a lot of jack to drop into something your not sure about..

Shamby, maybe I can offer an opinion. I have approx 425 HP in my '79 Z28 I drove to the strip. I had a 2500 RPM converter, 4.11s, and it ran fine, going 13.3-13.5 @ 104+ MPH. After a swap to an 8"/4500 converter, 4.56s, & 28" x 10" Goodyear slicks, it runs 12.80s @ 106. If it 'hooks', you'll have ALOT of fun!!! :chevy

I don't know what you are crying about in Canada your set up would cost way over 3000$

I have that kit on/in my engine. It's definitely awesome. I was having serious issues with the edelbrock carb leaning out at high RPM's (anything above 5200 or so) so I got a speed demon 750 with mechanical secondaries......made a HUGE difference in performance. I don't think it pulled enough vacuum with the Performer RPM cam to fully open the vacuum secondaries on the Edelbrock carb that came with the kit. If you are buying the parts separately I would go with a mech. secondary carb not the Performer 750 that is matched with the kit. Aside from the carb, the kit ROCKS. But that's just my experience it sounds like the rest of the guys are happy with the edelbrock carb. But boy I tell ya that demon makes it pull and pull and just keep pulling until you let off the throttle.

Help on the original 420 HP build
I know it has been a while since there was a post on this but do any of you still have these vettes? What plugs are you using and what is the gap? I had my 71 sitting in the garage all apart for 5 years and am putting back together but can't find the gap specification for this build. I remember the Plug itself was a Champion RC12YC. THanks
