Default Question about lifting body on a '73

Is it imperitive that the doors be left on when hoisting the body off of the frame? I will be hoisting with straps from a center point over the bird cage.

I'm trying to minimize the load as much as possible.

Any help on this greatly appreciated!

Dave

On a roadster, yes, and regardless, I would leave the doors on for strength and rigidy. Less body flex.

I'v noticed that even when my '74 is on jack stands under the frame rail the doors are harder to close (a little body flex). I would DEFINELY leave them on. I did when i lifted mine and the curve of the doors helped to position the straps.

What do you figure the body weights with the doors on? what means are you going to use to remove the body?

If the doors are off you can fab up a steel rod/pipe that will attach at the upper hinge mount and the door striker to keep everything in alingment.

I left the doors on mine with no problem, one thing I did do was part out an old sheepskin seat cover and put those pieces under the straps to protect the body.

Thanks for all the responses! Ok, then...the doors will stay on. I have enough work ahead of me without making more by creating stress that could have easily been avoided.

tzavalet GREAT picture gallery on your lift-off! That's just about what my work are looks like, and that's the method I am planning to use; chain hoist and straps from the garage rafters

This is my first body-off on a 'vette and I want to make sure I do this right. The best education is NOT always gotten by learing from your mistakes---that's why I ask those of you who have "been there, done that" and I listen very carefully!

Thanks again!! :seeya
