Can you fit a C4 glass spring in a C3?
The rear spring from an 84 looks very close to fitting. I think the C3 & C4 are 2 1/4 in wide but slightly diff in length.
Anyone done it.

Maybe the same reason they changed to a glass spring in the late C3's. Weight saving? Better handling?
I have a '77.

Thanks MW - at least I got 1 reply!
Vette Brakes is 10 000 miles away and the part I'm looking at is 20 miles away! Exchange rate is ridiculous as well! Sometimes I don't know why I bother asking!
I can't believe no one has ever contemplated it! The C4 spring looks like it would fit, is the same witdh at the mounting point, but a little longer I think.
It's not as if we can just go around the corner for all these parts you know!

The way you mount the springs is differnt. C3 is 3 bots, and the C4 is 4. + the c4 spring is a bit longer.

Obtaining parts must be :banghead: over there. If the spring is a good price I would buy it. You can sometimes shorten if necessary. I picked up a spring at a sale for real cheap and I'm going to retro fit it this spring. If the mount is correct it should work. You'll also need gas shocks.

A little longer should work from a length standpoint if the spring rate was correct so it would be nice to know exactly or at least approx. diff. in length & the spring rate.

Your C3 spring should be held on with 4 bolts. 1980-82 (Dana Aluminum) used 3 bolts, so the metal 1980 spring and the stock fiberglass springs in 1981-82 were held with 3 bolts.

My 80's is held on with 3 bolts, and my brothers 88 is held on with 4.

I think the diff in length is only about 20mm but the C4 spring was still mounted in a complete cutaway rear end so it had no weight on it. It used 4 mounting bolts as does my '77 but the C4 uses a lot of spacers in the mounting bracket.
As soon as my mate finishes his rear bushings we'll drop it down and do a swap and measure it then. I reckon it'll go close.
