Sorry for the crappy pic, it's late. Motor is in and mounts are bolted. I'm going to get an early start on it tomorrow and try to get it started. Still have to fine tune some pulley allignment and bolt everything up, but I hope I can sort it all out in another 8 hrs. or so. Anyway, there's no way in H@LL I'm putting that stupid shroud back in after wrestling it out! Have about $300 left on my Visa and I need an electric fan set up. Any Suggestions??? Thanks!!

nice motor! i felt the same way as you after taking the shroud off. one time i knew i did not want to do it again. check out http://www.dewitts.com he will help you out with the fan setup.

Well, the best route I have found, and plan to do this spring is to buy a 31x19 Griffin 2 row aluminum raditor, and either a permacool fan or a pair of electric fans from a late model camaro or Corvette, which can be had for ~$75 from a junk yard. The radiator is ~$190.
Add the wiring kit for the fans, and your write at $300 for a killer setup that will keep you COOL :cool:

The Spal fans are nice, but a bit too much for a solution you can get elsewhere for a lot less, IMHO. :smash:

I've heard nothing but good things about Griffin radiators. It's deff. the way to go with a BB. I'd get like and 82 fan for the engine side of the radiator to pull the air in, and just a 10 or 12'' fan on the front to push the air in. BB's love cool air for the coolant....

IMHO, if you can swing the ~$300 pricetag, the Spal unit is the one to get. It's a very high quality piece, much different than the $100 brands out there. It completely covers the rad core, so the airflow is much greater than the fans that don't seal everything. It also has air pressure doors built into the shroud that improve high speed (freeway) cooling. The Spal also looks awesome and fits much better in the C3 engine compartment, if that's important to you ;)

BeCool also sells the Spal unit (you can get it through Summit), but it doesn't come with the cool aluminum mounts that Dewitt's provides.

I have the large aluminum griffin rad and 2 16 inch electric fans. One is on all the time and the second is manually controlled. With just the one electric fan in hot weather the car would run hot without the help from the second fan. Even cruising at high speed for long distances I have to turn on the second fan and you can watch the temperature come down.
I feel with the bigblock and one electric fan you will be in trouble.
Two 16 inch fans do not fit behind a rad so I had to place one in front and one behind. I offset the 2 fans to cover the entire rad. One low and to the left and one high and to the right.
With 2 fans running I can maintain 190 regardless of the temperature.

Looks great! I was about to send you some email and find out how you were coming along. My car has dual flex-a-lites and the stock radiator. They work well with a small block. :cheers:

If you are buget limited, people have been using salvage yard Ford Windstar dual fans and Lincoln Mk 8 single fans with great success on big block chevelles and such. They probably fit vettes, too. Joe

I'm currently wrestling with the same issue. I've been searching the web. The Spal dual 11" fans pull 2780 CFM and list for $270 ($395 with complete wiring kit) on DeWitts' site. The Spal 16" pulls 2360 CFM and lists for $149. I'll probably pop for the 11" set-up but it's a little over your planned budget. Good luck!

My 2 cents worth, spend a few bucks more and get the Spals. They work great with my BeCool radiator and I can run my BB all day in and out of trafic in 90 plus weather with no problem. The Spals might cost more but they will be the last fans you will ever need.

Think it would be un-cool to ask Tom if he'd let a couple more Spal fan setups go for the Jan. GP price of $340????

i think you should start a new thread and ask if people want them and if you get several takers Tom will jump in if he can swing a new GP. i started that last thread because i needed a new radiator and he jumped in after several people responded. this way you will not have to ask him for that price.

Tom's a good guy. He might give you a special price since you're a forum member. I knwo he sells lotsa stuff here. I bought a dual 11" Spal setup from him. Very nice kit, no install or wiring hassles and the fans keep my 468 cool. What more can I say?

Thanks for all the input! I wrote Tom D. an email to see if it was OK to post another GP inquiry(polite, I thought). Also, I dont think I can use this QJet. I had to use a 3/4" adapter to fit it to the sqare bore intake, and it looks like it will not fit under the hood. I don't know what I'm going to use in its place, looks like it might be a Holley 3310-750. $250 for one with electric choke at Jeg's. There are lots of carbs I'd rather had, but my wallet is DRY! Anybody with a good 800+CFM carb for sale, gimme an email. Also, did a prliminary hookup of my Heddman Hussler's.....BAD! As in GOOD! Perfect fit, and the ceeramic coating looks great! I WILL have fire by Friday!
