Not a C3...but same underneath. Currently has a pump gas 555" with small twin turbos, GF5R 5 speed trans, 3.07 rear gears with a custom Dana 60 IRS. Runs 8.80's@162 mph and 200 MPH at the TX Mile.

When it was N/A...it ran 9.90's@142 as a pump gas 540 with same trans/gearing.

Switching from N/A to boost required changing pistons to take 2.5 points of compression out of it and 20* of cam timing.

Using Holley Dominator EFI on it.

What he failed to mention,
His car is beautiful and he drives it on the street.
Its one of the best if not the best all around great Corvettes anywhere.

I know I answered on your other post but here's my 68 l89, I'll tell you what I tell all the other people that ask , "it's just an old big block with an old Elgin pro stock cam and tunnel ram backed up with an 4 speed!" My dad originally bought this for drag racing back in the day.

My dad way back when....the car was originally Silverstone silver, at this point in time it was blue.

There’s three c3’s at my local track. We all have different approaches to the same goal lol.

one is stripped down, race weight, mild built small block with a big differential and 2 speed power glide. Pulls the wheels on launch.

mine is still streetable, original interior. Mild built small block, forged assembly and I have various NOS wet shots that I run. Th400. I don’t pull the wheels but the second half of the track times are moving.

third guy runs a big block, everything mostly stock. I don’t think it’s modded much, it’s nothing crazy.

none of these are serious drag cars though, just for fun.

Some pics of C3s on the track. None of us going anywhere near as fast as Jim 427 hotrod.

My car has a fairly mild 383 with worked Vortec heads, Qjet, hyd roller cam, TH350 with 3k stall converter, 3.73 rear and drag radials. Has gone a best of 12.15 at Etown (RIP) and 12.18 at Island Dragway, at 110mph. In typical Jersey summer conditions, hot and humid, it runs 12.5 - 12.6. But its bracket racing.

Your car has always impressed me. That sucker moves for such a mild combo. You've spent time to sort it out and it shows!!

Mines was mid 300 hp, my buddies atleast 100-200hp more and stripped for weight....when he gets on it he can easily be in the 11s...my later 327 build that was mid 400hp was a lot faster and more fun...now im trying to keep a big block together

We built a copy of a 427 L88 engine for my 1968 C3. With a 3.36 and the M21 all I can do is spin my tires until past the 1/8 (Halfway) mile mark. I would spin literally halfway down the track and still do 13 second quarter miles at 118-120 mph. I had been warned not to dip into the sub 12's or I would be off the track since I was in a Convertible. Had I known I would have thrown on the Hardtop. The 427 made it possible to beat 2 restored 1970 LT1's, and a 1969 L89 car. My wife turned a 14 second quarter mile in our C3, I was impressed even though she was not used to accelerate the way you do on a quarter mile track. She also shifted at 4k rpm well below the peak torque.

A few months later I borrowed a set of D.O.T. slicks on rims and put the wheels on the car. Within a few minutes and a couple miles I had blown a half shaft U-Joint into a LOT of scrap metal pieces. Now I have solid u-joints and regular street Tires but can't drive well in the rain without fishtailing all over when you try to accelerate. I have BF Goodrich tires which were fine before the L88 build.

Great Video there Rescue Rogers! I have always wished I could take off like the cars in the videos.

Here is a video of the run against the red Nova in my pic. I had about a 2 tenths head start here and I was able to stay in front. This was the first round and I love putting those trailered cars back on the trailer.

I'm gaining a true affinity for the plastic bumper cars. They're so damned cheap! They won't be forever. May have to scoop a couple. Thank you all for posting!

When i upped the horsepower to 435hp, i would spin in the first 3 gears as well. Best did was 13 flat at 108mph...should have been 12.5 if i could have hooked. I wont run slicks for the same reason you stated....stuff starts breaking. I had ripped the snubber bracket off the diff and the u joint ate into the center compartment...reinforced it but learned a lesson..
Anything below 13 requires helmets here, below 12 is a cage i believe. I will bring my hardtop and a helmet if i think i can get into the 12s....havent had the 427 there yet.

Drag cars use weight transfer (front wheels up) to get the maximum take off traction. I have entered season long NHRA drag racing that required you to attend meets at all the division 7 tracks in the bracket series and the all corvette drag meets held in Sacramento California. So my 3000 pound SCCA road racing class 79 vette was built to the opposite side of the coin. Heavy roll cage made for very little front end lift or dive under braking. I started out at the drag strips with 355 ci and shifting at 7200 rpm running low 12 seconds with goodyear drag slicks and a line lock to heat up the rear tires. My solid roller 383 got it down to the 11.70's and that's when I quit. I got so tired of sitting in the baking sun in the staging lanes and having to make every points meet. Sometimes the money was good when you would add up all the contingency money for running the correct parts. It actually made you read the National dragster magazine to run the parts that paid the most money. I got a runner up once that paid $1500 something in contigency parts money for having all the right stickers displayed on your car.

My 427 SBC was getting tired and putting out blue smoke from 1000's of miles around different road racing tracks and I decided that before the rebuild I was just going to drive it 70 miles on used road racing slicks to the nearest 4000 some foot elevation local NHRA drag strip on a Friday late afternoon for the open test and tune and grudge match evening. I got there early to beat all the kids and their front wheel drive rice cars because they cover the track with water doing their burn outs and pulling forward. So I made ten back to back runs just driving around and lining back up. 345 /18 rear Hoosier R1 road racing slicks and a 5 speed. The track wasn't sticky VHT prepped like a real event. So in a 5 speed with an 11.5 pound flywheel it was either kind of bog or way too much spinning. But I managed to get a series of high 10.90's with a Air Density altitude of something over 8000 feet.

345/18 road racing slicks and 4 inch exhaust tips out of the race mufflers

Back before I did the rear fender flares and only a 383 motor. 315/17 rear tires out on a 3000 mile round trip to Yellowstone
