Valvolione VR 1
Has anybody used this oil? I checked on the Valvoline website and it tells me this is not compatible with the 1975 Corvette 350. It seems perfect after reading the description.
Thanks!

good oil ,and you need it, they say it's not compatible because it's a street car and high zinc content hurts longevity of a modern catalytic converters but that won't effect your car and the flat tappet cam and distributor gears need the extra zinc

In my 78 I use Valvoline VR1 per my engine rebuilder 20w-50. By this time there is nothing left in the cat for this to do any damage to it.

I wouldn’t personally run T4 in any small block or big block. I have admittedly run it in several older gasoline tractors.
There are alot of additives in oil along with ZDDP, and some to do with anti foaming etc. The old gas tractors had a max rpm of 2200. I’m sure they are more than fine. With a small block or big block I would be worried about the RPM and the foaming possibility.
I’m no expert by any stretch so maybe it’s a non issue.

That rotella sure is cheep, about 20 bucks an oil change if you buy it in bulk, VR1 costs me about 30...or 3-4 DD coffees.... I do two oil changes a year generally, at this stage of my life I'll just error on the side of caution and use an oil designed for gas engines...

I think Valvoline VR1 is their racing oil. As a rule, racing oil is not recommended for street use. It is meant for race engines with high loads and to be changed frequently. It does not have the same rust and corrosion inhibitors an oil meant for street cars.
I would tell you what I use, but oil is topic where everyone has a different opinion.

It might be a matter of detergent.

There is more than one type of VR1, synthetic and conventional. I have used VR1, conventional, 10W30, silver bottle, for decades. Says right on the bottle For Classic Cars.
