When I bought my 1980 Corvette in 1983 it had a mast antenna. I later changed to a aftermarket power antenna but didn't like the fact it protruded slightly from the body. I'm in the middle of a body off restoration currently and thinking of glassing the hole and going with a hidden antenna. Does anyone have any recommendations?

I just a bought a Dakota digital one but i havent installed it yet. It has mostly good reviews. You could look into that one..

Don't expect a better reception than with a stock antenna, but if you are close enough from the station, you should be ok.

I used a Retrosound hidden antenna in a 68 firebird years back, works great.
Mounted it in the trunk, screwed into the metal panel behind the back seat.

I was thinking about the antenna that came with my Sirrius Radio, and sat on the dash. Then I realized, it probably wouldn't work for FM. Then I wondered, why would anyone even listen to FM anymore anyway? I live near Houston, one of the biggest cities in the country, and there is no longer an oldies station, the so-called classic country station(which played a bunch of 90s-up garbage) is now gone, and only one classic rock station that plays ten minute(I have time it) commercial blocks. Sirrius radio is like a dollar a day, and internet radio is free. Sorry, just had to vent.

I installed a manually retractable antenna ages ago....just to fill the hole. I don't really listen to the radio but I can pull it out to put on a little flag for this, that, and the other occasions..... It does work and I have to say it looks better than an antenna always sticking up. Not much of anything to electrically fail or break either..... and it works if I ever turn on the radio.

Not sure where to even find one nowadys? Probably amazon or ebay?

You can get them at Crutchfield. I bought one and the reception is better than the fixed mast I had.

EXACTLY!!! I got rid of cable and wanna watch the local new occasionally- every "digital" antenna I tried was crappy.
I used a $29 regular old TV antenna - put it in the attic and it works great. BTW- the whole FM band is between the over the air channels 5 and 6.

The metal body cars work much better with ANY antenna- as the car's body acts as a ground plane.

Look at the metal plate GM used under the antenna to help- back in the day.

Top of the gas tank would be the best choice- just don't screw it into it!!!

Your phone has an antenna, and Bluetooth.

Amazon (for example) will stream much higher quality music than the radio, including Sirius/XM radio.

Don't glass the hole. Plug it, and save it for a future mod.

The broadcast FM band is above the old analog TV OTA channel 6 (83.5 MHz).The old analog TV OTA channel 6 audio carrier was at 87.75 MHz.

HA- been a while since I messed with that- when I worked for Kenwood - several of their radios would go 87.75 and you could listen to the TV station- So it's between channels 6 and 7.

Channel 7 starts at 174 MHz.

I guess my point - lost in translation -is a 1/4 wave antenna is around 30"- Which is going to be tough to beat in performance- as I don't see a 1/2 or 5/8 wave antenna as practical on a vette!
