Default Pics of my old fuse panel...

Well - here are pics of my old fuse panel.. The contacts were so corroded that they wouldn't make good contact anymore...

The contacts were so bad that some of the electric equipment didn't work properly.. With the new "Painless" fuse panel - everything is working perfect now!!!

That's what happens when you live near the beach! Although I'd suffer with a little rust to live on Miami Beach any day... (.)(.)

Well - the condo garage is below ground level and completely closed off.. The fuse panel was already rusty when I got the car.. Luckily - the rest of the metal parts of the car is pretty much rust free... The main problem is that the original owner of the car relocated the fuse panel to the engine compartment without covering it... When I got the car - I put the panel in a box to protect it.. However - the damage to the contacts was already done...

Good grief, that thing is fried! I can't believe it worked at all. That was a bad choice to place it in the engine compartment. What are people thinking? I hope your new installation is weather tight. I bet the improvement was very noticeable.

So far - my installation is not "weather tight".. I'm going to build a plastic box that will contain the new fuse panel and protect it. The car fired before - because the starter and ignition are directly wired to the energy and didn't go through the fuse panel... Even the headlights are directly wired...

Absolutely - I always had to remove the fuses and sand down a little bit of the corrosion to get contact again.. That's why I decided to get a modern style fuse panel... I actually thought before on re-wiring the whole car.. but that's just too much work...

The ignition was directly wired to the ignition switch and therefore not influenced by the bad fuse panel..

That could have been a fire waiting to happen. All that corrosion must have really jacked up the resistance on the circuits that were still flowing current. Resistance = heat = fire potential.

Absolutely... Sometimes - the Voltmeter only showed 10 Volt instead of 14 Volt    . Thanks god that I finally replaced the fuse panel...

Mine was just like that, no woder nothing worked! Now I have my new fuse box mounted in the stirage compartment behind the passenger seat. It's lot more easier to work on now!

That would be a nice location for the fuse panel.. However - too much work to relocated it there...

What was GM thinking when they located it where they did? Could it be any further up under the dash? Moving it was a good idea, just poorly executed.

Gotta give you that, BUT I think it's well worth it. Your fuse box stays nice, clean and dry for the rest of your cars life cycle!
