Default Identify this head? I can't.

I can't identify this head. It's on my '79 L82 engine. Clearly it's not the original smog head, nor is it a camel hump. Any number I come up with is also a crappy smog head. But who knows, i'm not an expert. I can't imagine why someone would replace crappy smog heads with other crappy smog heads, even if they were free. But that's just me.

That's one soft casting #... The end marking is kinda tough to decipher too... I'm thinking it could be 3998993.
Is the casting # on the other head similarly soft?

I went through my source material to try to identify your heads but there's just not enough to go on here.
You'll either need to clean off the end cap identifier or pull the other valve cover and see if that cast number shows better than the one on this head.

Thanks all. You did as well as I did. Oh well. It looks to me like it was cleaned up after it rusted up. Found in a pasture and subjected to electrolysis.

Something wrong? Maybe, a few things. I haven't started testing things yet. Mostly I'm just curious. It will influence future plans for the engine.

3986388: 1968-1976 307ci and 350ci, 76cc chambers, 1.72/1.50-inch valves. Glad they are not on my engine.

Yeah, that was one of my candidate guesses too. Pretty much the same crap as the original stock heads. (whyyyyy???)

I originally thought it might be the 3986388 as well but the identifier is wrong.

Any reason not to pull them? You can measure the valves on your way to the recycler.
