Alternator ?? 78 Pace car
What should a 78 stock alt. look like? Stator is it black or amber in color? I've seen both. Fan blade and pulley color?
Thanks for any info in advance, CG

Here is a link to a photo album containing pics of the original alternator from my 78 SA. Car is an L-82 w/AC, but no power locks, windows or defroster. It's a 42 amp version. Believe cars optioned with more power options had a larger one so they might appear different so TMMV.

The portion of the Stator showing through the 2 half's could have been a yellow cad finish, a reddish in color electrical varnish or a olive in color varnish.
The fans backside is unpainted and looks to be some-kind of cold galvanizing.
The pulleys backside is unpainted and looks like a Zinc plating.
The pulley and fan were painted together as evident of no paint under the pulley with some droplets of over spray on the back of fan.
The color I used on my 77 was satin black.

From the NCRS TIMJG. I likened the fan to a zinc finish but then that was the work of the restorer
Fig. M 12.3 Alternator fan & pulleyAlternator Pulley & Fan Alternators are equipped with a zinc-plated pulley, stamped from sheet stock with a ½" groove. However, examples of a machined pulley are occasionally seen on L82s. A/C equipped cars use pulleys with 6 stamped on the face and are 2.65" in diameter. Non-A/C pulleys are stamped with a 7 and are 2.83" in diameter. All alternators use a silver-plated 11-blade fan. Blades are various sizes with one having an obvious notch

Hard to tell from your photo above.
A machined pulley would have had a much squarer transition at the trailing edge into the belt grove.
Notice how the trailing edge of this #6 stamped pulley is more gradual (tapered) into the belt grove.

Hello. Post 101 is my rebuild..with advice...
https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...uestion-6.html
the replacements are crap.. lost 50 RPM same load.. always rebuild old.. IMO
original before restoring below too.. i did not blast it just clean.. nice color stator @bmotojoe
this is about 14000 miles after rebuild.. so a little dirty.. bought from one owner 28000 miles
Of NOTE.. MY pulley is 2.6 inches by caliper and 2 5/8 by tape measure outer most pulley... no idea if machined or stamped? I have every option but cruise electrically and i also have rear defog

Curious to know if your 79 L82 W/AC pulley was stamped or machined.
