Default 1971/2 Vette

I think I have just about taken every part off my '72, at one time or another, cleaned and/or painted it. Getting ready to take the body off again. Anyway, every part I have taken off, says 2-71 or 3-71. I've often wondered if I should order parts for a 71 rather than a 72 although I'm sure there is no difference in the parts, per se.
Just odd that they call this a 72 when it was made early '71.
Amazing......... any reasoning behind this or was this just a left over 71 and renamed 72, lol.

The Take Me Back article linked above is completely inaccurate and should not be relied upon for anything. For example:
The 1972 Corvette was introduced in March of 1971 and featured a number of changes from previous models. One of the most noticeable changes was the switch from chrome to urethane front and rear bumpers. This change was made in order to comply with new federal safety regulations. The other major change for the 1972 model was the discontinuation of the convertible model. Only 6,508 convertibles were sold in 1971, so Chevrolet decided to focus on the coupe and hatchback models.
'72 Corvette production did not begin in March of '71; it began in August '71. That said, many parts shared between the two years could certainly have been made in early-'71 and been carried over to the '72. Trim pieces are a prime example of this. Major parts like dated engine components would have been much closer to the new year roll-over than March as long as the car in question is early in the '72 production.

This will only be a concern for parts that were changed during the '72 production year. Your first step is to determine the build date or month of your car, which is easy to do from the VIN. Then when you see parts offered for '72 that indicate "early" or "late" you would need to find out when that part changed to see which configuration to get according to your car.
