I imagine that you have some kind of spragless billet stator in yours
Good questions George. I am running Mickey Thompson 275/60R15 ET Street Radial Pro's. No transbrake. I am footbraking the car and am leaving between 2000 rpm and 3000 rpm. I am not an expert on Torque Converters but I had a COAN bolt together for the Powerglide I experimented with when I had the 632 in the car. That was approximately 12 years ago.

To be consistent at drag racing WO a tranny brake like power braking launch. You have to figure out the max rpm where your rear brakes are overcome by the motor TQ and actually start pushing your locked up front tires through the staging lights which would cause a foul red light .

so in my vette with much less hp and only a 3800 stall would over come my stomped down brakes at the light power braking right about 1800 rpm. So for consistency I just turned up my idle speed screws to just under 1800 rpm.

Do the water box roll through to burn out with my set my line lock . Put my tranny in 2nd and bring my speedometer up to 100mph let off the line brake which allows the car to roll forward. Then just let off to roll up for prestage. Let the other person roll in.

Once the stage lights come on and I liked shallow stage on 5/10th tree to help me not red light. I did so many years of 4th Pro tree that the staggered bracket racing was off even when I would sit in the pits with a practice light.

so at the light. Left foot on the brake, right foot just touching the gas. Lights come down and which ever one you leave on. Foot goes down on the gas while lifting off the left foot brake

That sounds about what I am doing right now. Anything over 3000 rpm causes the car to creep forward despite pushing on the brakes with all I have!

Thanks George!!

With power braking. You know left foot on the brake and right on the gas

There is a point where the motor over comes the brakes .

surprised that your not tranny brake guy. It's so easy to just lift your right thumb

I may end up with a trans brake at some point. I haven't done any research on them and don't know if it would compromise my street driving in any way.

Congrats on your outstanding achievement Steve! You're diligence is outstanding and 30RWHP would be great but shave another 0.10 off that 60' (very doable given how you're launching today!) And high 8's are in the bag!

Thanks John! Will thinks I can pick up a little more with further suspension tuning as well. I'm not going to chance things though. The next time I go out I will have that extra 30 rwhp!

Tranny brakes are a wonderful item. Mine was the typical first and reverse with the thumb button on the steering wheel.

The car has to be stopped, shifted into first, and then press the button as a safety feature.

My other advice is running the biggest volume pan, tranny cooler, and temperature gauge. You only want to engage it and go to WOT for the shortest possible time. Staging rev limiter is also a good idea and in your case setting it below 6000 and hooked into the transmission brake button

You could also try a staging rev limiter for consistency on power braking. I used one on my drag bike to get the same rpm launch every time

Good information. I use the MSD Grid system which allows for staging rev limiters. Thanks George!

We managed to shatter the TC stator once in a 6500 stall 8 inch my partner was driving. So I can't tell you exactly when or why it failed in a PG tranny.

But they make a brake that does first and second gear. I don't have any knowledge about it, so it might be worth researching if it causes less stress or heat

Thanks Bill! Prior to switching to a torque converter it was making around 745 rwhp. With the torque converter it is making around 670 rwhp.
