I am returning to the forum after being absent for many years. I just purchased a 77 with 15k documented miles. It is bone stock with the exception of a pair of flowmaster mufflers. In keeping with the stock theme, I would like to go with an original factory sounding sounding muffler. Suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Mine had a pair of corvette America round stock style mufflers when I bought the car. I could hear the engine fan more than the exhaust.

With single exhaust going thru a catalytic converter you won’t get a noticeable difference in sound from the driver’s seat. My 78 had 17,000 miles and OEM mufflers on it, but had the cat deleted and dual pipes without a crossover. Needed cat to pass emission testing so I put an original style exhaust from Corvette Central going thru one cat and Magnaflow mufflers. It got quieter; very mellow sound at idle; step on it and the carb secondaries opening up are louder than the exhaust. Magnaflow makes a high flowing replacement cat that fits exactly in place of the original. The CC exhaust is made by them to duplicate the original exactly, except for the shape of the cat. They have OEM duplicate mufflers available as well if you want it even quieter.

They sell both the original round style '73-'78 muffler and the hideaway.
Both sound bone stock...
