Removing the GLASS from side view mirror
Has anyone removed the side-view mirror glass from it's housing and successfully re-installed? I have two (2) LH-side mirrors (I'm sure both are aftermarket), and the one without the "glass" (it's actually plastic!) fits the bracket/base on the door fine, but the one with the glass just doesn't fit correctly - the set-screw doesn't line-up. The base of the two mirrors must just be slightly different, although not obvious when examining. I would like to swap over the glass to the assembly that fits if it's feasible.
By the looks of the assembly without the glass, a hobby store - type of hot glue was used to adhere the glass. I'd guess applying heat would be used to soften, but I don't want to discolor the glass. Also, when re-adhering, would you recommend just using a hot glue gun or something like JB Weld???
I'm sure I'll eventually buy a new set, but reviews from various suppliers' websites indicate that most are China-Junk and USA-made are out-of-stock.
Thanks for suggestions!

Try lacquer thinner. Put the mirror face down in a metal pan, cover with aluminum foil and put it outside. The mirror should free up in short order. Jerry
