Who says Vettes aren't for roadtrips?
Olathe, Kansas to Leon, West Virginia. Around 1000 miles. Around 8 gas stops!!
Other than the gas money, this was an excellent trip, which I hope to make many more of! (We go to WV each year for family Christmas) She performed admirably of course, road noise was not bad with CDplayer covering it, no noticable exhaust drone. Stable temp the whole way. If only I hadn't been paced by my dad going the speed limit!
Thursday I leave for Maryland and head back from there with a stop in Indianapolis. (Hotel night with girlfriend, high-class suite and all :D) I'll be sure to give an update on that leg of the trip also, and I'd love to hear any other long-distance travel stories from you guys! (The good, the bad, and the worse.)

Last year I took mine on a 3500 roadtrip to the east coast. Had a great time and plan on another one this coming summer.

Thats great. I haven't taken mine on a road trip yet, but plan on it.
The only thing that I don't like is the Interstate. With a 4 speed close ratio tranny and 3.70 gears I don't like to cruise 90mph all day. I think perhaps a route 66 type trip would be better.
Glad to hear it went off without a hitch

These cars with overdrive transmissions make great highway cruisers. I get about 17mpg, even at higher speeds.

That's great! Congratulations. You must have really done a good job at making sure the car is trustworthy before undertaking such an adventure. I trust mine as well, but have not taken it on that long of a trip. The longest I have travelled was about 500 miles round trip. Flawless.

Many years ago I drove my '63 from Albany, N.Y. to Fresno, CA. and back. I was very comfortable but, I was alone and I was in my twenties so comfort was not as important then. If I were to do it today I think I would want air, cruise, od trans. etc.
Merry Christmas to all!!

Two weeks after I bought my car a buddy and I went from Seattle to Los Angeles and back. Top down the whole way. Before the trip I had only put a few hudred miles on it. What a way to see if anything was wrong.

The only disadvantage to an overdrive is that the car becomes durned FAST on the highway. Instead of feeling like you're pushing hard at 70+ mph, it becomes, "Oops, sorry Officer. How fast was I going? It sure didn't feel like it..." :D

I love road trips in the Vette. Even on a normal weekend we put about 300 to 400 miles on it. We took a trip to Florida in Sept. It was 1000 miles one way and it was great. I average about 14 mpg while crusing at 90 mph. Also took a nice trip down to San Antonio last month. The car cruises great. It is much more comfortable than my Nova for long trips and you can fit plenty of luggage for a two week trip.

Yessir....cross country road trips every year in the 72. The only draw back is stopping at a laundry mat twice a week.

i have driven my corvette on two hot rod power tours, taken it to bowling green, and drive it back and forth to dallas all the time. wife hates to sit in the passenger seat for too long because its too loud for her liking and she likes loud carsmike

yeh, I tried her out on several semi-long drives first. 3 hours each way to Winfield, KS (basically going from the top to bottom of Kansas). Done that at least 4 times. Plus 2 hour trips home at least 3 times now. The drive back will really be easier, hotel stop halfway instead one straight run. No substitute driver or chase-vehicle this time though! Keep those stories coming (oh, I'd love to have a 6-speed too...maybe next XMas), probably won't make it back online before I go, wish me luck!

I''ve taken her on two trips to Bowling Green which were around 5500 miles EACH! and one trip to the Black Hills in 96 3200 miles or so.
The last trip with the ROD I got 22.8 mpg. This car is a great cruiser. High 12's in the 1/4 and damn near 23mpg on the highway as long as Im not to heavy footed...............Q-jet and ROD= :D   :D
