We need help with a part found in steering column.
Hi, horses and C-3 Corvettes... living the dream. My husband and I are owners of a 1976 bright yellow collector vette, because I couldn’t wait for the frame off rebuild of the 79. We really could use some help in finding what this random part is that ended up from somewhere in the steeringcolumn. So that’s where we are on the rebuild. I hope to find answers and look forward to assisting others with the knowledge we have gained so far along this journey.
Where did come from? Where does it go?
Was found loose under turn signal cam.

It's the spring that goes under the rack. When you turn the key it turns a cog on the other end of the lock cylinder. That cog has the rack mounted under it so it slides up and down the column, attached to that rack is the long rod that goes out to the ignition switch bolted on top of the column. The spring helps maintains a good meshing of the teeth on the rack,n ,pinion style connection.
forget the painted arrows , you can just see the tiny edge (of the clean looking spring steel ) hanging over the edge ,under the rack piece
