Is this a good one or is there one better?

Re: Which Oil Filter Do You Use? (OHSIXX)
Well I attempted to post a picture here, but something is apparently out of order. Please accept my regrets.
The oil filter I was asking about is the K&N Gold Filter. Just curious if it is considered one of the best, and if not, what is the best?

I recall (you can search the archives) that various filters were rated. I use either ACDelco or Fram (which was not high on list.) But I'm pretty **** about oil changes and do so every 2000+/- miles.

K&N is an excellent filter. It's manufacturered my Champion Labs (also the maker of Mobil1, AC Delco UltraGuard Gold, Bosch Premium, STP, and more than 100 other OEM and private label filters), has a micron rating of about 18 with a high flow rate, and - along with the Mobil1 - has probably the thickest and strongest case in the full flow filter industry. Is it the best you can buy? That's a judgement call. Other filters, like the UltraGuard Gold and Mobil1 filter down to lower micron levels but at the cost of being slightly more restrictive.
IMO you can't go wrong with the K&N, the other premium Champion made filters, Baldwin/Hastings, Amsoil, Wix, or Wix made clones (Penske, NAPA Gold, Castrol etc.) However, Frams, or any other filter produced by Honeywell/Allied Signal will never come near any vehicle I drive :nono:

Paul, why are your AC Delco filters white with blue lettering? Is it a Canadian thing? The US filters are Blue with white lettering on the can.

For a pretty complete evaluation of oil filters head to this website: http://www.scuderiaciriani.com/rx7/oil_filter_study/
Personally, I've been using AC filters, but may switch to Mobil 1.

asking people about oil filters you will get as many "opinions" as the number of people that you ask...
and remember that filters change over the years so what your "dad always used" may not be the same construction as it was back then...ie Fram
(good in the old days but junk now)
if you check out this site and study it carefully i believe that you will be impressed...they leave no stone unturned...
bottom line...Mobil 1
but remember...no matter which filter you deside is best for you, be absolutely sure that you use one with a check valve! very important! and not all filters have one...
but go there and check out the facts for yourself...:yesnod: http://www.scuderiaciriani.com/rx7/oil_filter_study/

I use an Amsoil oil filter in the vette.Change it once a year.
In my family vehicles I use Purolator's Pure One filters.
Good rating in that survey and I buy a bunch for $4.95 at a Strauss auto stores when their on sale.

System 1 washable, buy it once, plus you can see what if anything is floating around in your motor every time you clean it
