How do you remove the a-arms?
Hi all!
I want to remove the a-arms and I´m wondering, if it is possible to do it without removinge the engine (BigBlock). What´s the trick? Are the bolts remove able?
Thanks, Günther

If the engine is not in the car and you cannot use the weight of the car to compress the springs, you will need a spring compressor. If the engine is in the car, you can use the weight of the engine to compress the springs.
My front end rebuild paper has the entire process in detail, but assumes the engine is in the car. If the engine is not in the car, you can use the paper along with a compressor, and the job will go fine. E-mail me for a copy.

Hi Lars!
Thank you, I know about the srping. What I wanted to ask, when I lose the nuts from the shaft, the a-arms won´t slip out of the car, because there is a collision on the left side with the exhaust mainfold and on the right side, collision with the engine block. That are the problems.
Thanks, Günther

Be very careful with those springs, they can be deadly if not compressed/secured right.

Melting Slicks
You have to knock the bolts out with a long prybar or a small hammer, I have done it before The upper ball joint must be separated from the steering knuckle to do this

After you disconnect the upper ball joint loosen the nuts on the control arm take out the shims and tap the bolt side to side to loosen it up then you can knock it out with a long pry bar or small hammer
