Power steering low pressure return hose sprung a leak
It's leaking where it's clamped to the pump. The brass fitting must have cut it from the inside. I installed it 2 years ago and it just started leaking. Did I do something wrong? Is the clamp too tight or is the brass fitting not at the correct angle?
Can I cut the hose a clamp it back on or do I have to buy a new one?
Thanks.

Re: Power steering low pressure return hose sprung a leak (vettesite)
If you have the stock production power steering pump, the low pressure return line hose should just push onto a 3/8 diameter steel tube that is brazed on the back of the pump reservoir. Pull the hose off and inspect the tube and make sure there isn't a burr or sharp edge that could cut the inside of the hose.
You should be able to cut off the last inch or so of the hose and reinstall it on the reservoir tube. The tube should have a slight increase in diameter (a small bump) right toward the end. Install the screw clamp between the bump and the reservoir. Do not overtighten the screw clamp. You could check the clamp and tighten it a small amount further after a couple days.

Re: Power steering low pressure return hose sprung a leak (Jim Shea)
Thanks Jim. I knew when I posted this topic that you would answer and I'm glad you did. Your knowledge of the power steering system and Vettes is impressive. I will check the things you mentioned and get my Vette crusin' again.
