Trivia of the Evening-The 1976 was Known for...
The infamous Vega, four-spoke steering wheel. Never to be repeated in later years. But GM introduced something else that year that was new for the C3. What was it?

Again that is correct. But not what I was thinking of. It is not the alloy wheels either.

I should have been more specific! The maintenance free battery that we all enjoy today was pointed out to me by instant message. And that is correct also. It was introduced in 1976. Hint: body structure.

Actually two differences body-wise. First, the vent grates behind the rear window were removed, second the hood was redesigned. Whereas 1973-75 took in air from the cowl by the windshield, the 76 changed the air intake towards the front of the car.
Underneath they started using a underbelly to help reduce cockpit heat.
Yes........ I have my Black Book da*m near memorized!

Someone got the answer by instant message. The underbelly (floor pans) of the 1976 was changed from fibreglass to steel. That is why some later C3s see floor rust-out. Check yours! Thanks for listening.

Before I bought my '77, I had beater vehicles. I had a '76 Jeep CJ-7 . Every time it went in for inspection, a can or two of undercoating would be on the front seat. :p: I got divorced and bought a '69 Dodge van ( in'91) from my Great Uncle( original owner) that had 61K miles. That had a rust problem too.
I bought the '77 from my step dad who lived in another state. I had to get PA inspection. I dropped it off to get inspected and called my mechanic later that day. He said "It passed except for the rust on the floor". I laughed and said I'd be over to pick it up. Sure enough, no sticker
My mechanic thought it was real funny I bought a fiberglass car that had a rust problem

I guess that trivia sometimes has relevance....Thanks. Even if it just gets people to peek underneath and see what condition their floor pans are in. This thread might prevent a carbon monoxide problem in the driving area!
