Trying to find what cam
Who would of been the major catalog car part suppliers back in the mid/late 80s . I bought a 350/ 350 hp rebuild kit back then think t had everything in it ( could be wrong it was almost 35 years ago ). pistons , cam bearing, lifters rings etc think it was around 350 dollars . I can't remember who I ordered it from . Trying to figure out what cam I have all I know it was a Crane , I have the instruction sheets shows copyright 1985 but doesn't say anything about what cam it is . Figure if I can find t, he kit I might be able to get the cam size ..

PAW maybe? Performance Automotive Wholesale. They had a huge catalog back then and sold lots of stuff. I know I bought from them too.

Probably got it from P.A.W. (Performance Automotive Warehouse).........I assembled my first 355 Chevy with a kit from them when I was 14 years old.....(1985!). You could get everything including the block machined from them. They were in the back of every Street Machine mag back then....sometimes with two page ads......they now only sell Early Hemi parts......
They used General Kenetics cams back then.....which were made in Detroit.....GK made a lot of cams for the Speed Shop rebox crowd in those days.
If it is a Crane.....look at the old Energizer grinds and chances are one of those old grinds will be it.......

Been playing with this for years .The kit was for a stock 350 suppose to get it to 350 hp . Since then on top of it I added 11 to 1 pistons, roller rocker, on 3rd intake , probably 5th carb .added headers , 2 1/2 chambered exhaust stall converter , . Thing is running the best it ever has not going to take it apart until I blow it up . Guess it will just have to stay a mystery . But for some reason the performance place sounds right . Wonder if there's a 1985 catalog around someplace . Thanks .

The owner of PAW had no interest in LSx stuff, modern cyl heads etc. He wanted to just sell his old junk and eventually went under.
I heard he still dealt in Hemi stuff.

Melting Slicks
PAW, Elgin, Speedomotive and even TRW all had cheap flat tappet cams that all had the exact same specs on all their grinds. I always thought they were all Elgin made cams. When Summit showed up online their cheap grinds also had the exact same specs. They all had a knock-offs of the 350 horse 327 cam that was real commonly included in kits. Used a few of the cheap rebuild kits from PAW with this cam. Never had an issue.

Yep... used a lot of Melling cams that were just reboxed....but they worked.
It's hard to tell sometimes. I was in a small but well known cam company one night and they were doing 300 Ford Hyd roller cams for Comp. They had all the masters to grind cams for a lot of different companies.

Its was around 34 years ago we put it in .For some reason I keep thinking its a 480 480 . But that's a shot in the dark, You guys really don't need to waist a lot of your time on this Thanks for the info you gave me .. I have a place to start . Back in the 80s and 90s I use to work for a automotive aftermarket company . All I had do is find what I wanted in a catalog tell my salesman and he would call other reps and I would get the parts at cost .Think i paid under 45 dollars for my roller rocker arms .
