1977 Corvette mystery part identification please help
hi ....
i have a 77 vette, it has a rear composite mono spring, i took it apart to do some differential work and and trying to put it back together. i found these rubber parts brittle & falling apart but i cant id these parts (see pics) please let me know the name,the function with grease fittings. i tried to find it online & the usual corvette suppliers but can not find it at all

That is the Vette Brake and Parts Dual Mount Rear Spring set-up , on your ‘Vette.
The aluminum block with the grease fitting is used by placing the retainer bolt in different holes to adjust the fiberglass spring settings.
The plastic/metal price hold the string in place and prevents the fiberglass spring from chaffing against a bolt on top of the spring.
A second plastic piece goes under the spring to also keep it from chaffing under the spring.
If you are unable to procure new parts, then it could be possible to make a liner.... of sorts... as once adjusted they do not move around ... they just position the spring alignment in it up and down flexing
In my opinion they seem to be still usable...where it matters...

do you know what the grease fitting is used for ?

With that setup the spring has movement so the blocks must pivot on the pin. If it hasn't been greased in a while the pivot might be seized.
If you're not into tracking car I would buy a new center mount spring (like stock) along with the bolts and clamp for it. As was mentioned VanSteel would be a good choice to help you out.

That is the VB&P rear dual mount spring setup and they still sell the parts your looking for. I have the front setup and replaced the parts your needing a year or so back.
Contact VB&P or go to their web site and order what you need, the parts aren't costly at all.
Moving the pivot bolt allows you to adjust the spring rate, the grease fitting allows you to lube the pivot point.

now would i be needing a whole new spring with center clamp (pretty expensive) or can i get away with just the center clamp with the old spring also if i go with the center clamp do i need to get rid of both brackets where the piviot attaches to ?? thanks l82
