Default Ford GT - Corvette Engineers better start thinking

In yesterdays National Post I saw a picture of Bill Ford standing next to a Ford GT, the production of these cars is to begin in 2004 with a build lot of 1000. All I have to say to GM managers is that they better start thinking about what they are going to do with the new Corvette - start thinking 427 ci - :)

Why stop at 427 when a 540BB would be the ultimate???? It would blow away this, Vipers, and anything else out there!!

Naw, not me. I want to see a short stroke 5 -6 liter DOHC ala ZR-1 that revs to the moon with a blower. That oughta do it.

I don't think GM makes a 427 big block anymore. The 427 they have put into some experimental cars was a small block. Besides, I'm talking king of the road here where an aluminum 540BB would reign supreme against a possible HEMI viper or ANYTHING else out there!

Bill Ford Jr. is a cheese ball. Guy talks about Ford trucks like he used one to haul something. Only thing he has hauled in a Ford truck is his fat a$s and wallet.

Gm special vehicle operations does have a supercharged 427 that is yellow in color and I belive is making over 600 hp- I saw this on TNN - but again as GM would have it, they create something hot, talk about and it never comes to production. I dont want to see a viper and or ford ahead of the vette thats for sure. I dont mind the 350 as a base engine but they have got to get a bigblock together if they want to run with the competition :)

I agree! If :chevy would just build the damn thing instead of :bs ing about they wouldn't have any problems selling it. They could call it the new ZL-1

The new GT40 is no more the Corvette's competition than a Ferrari F-50 is an Alfa's. The GT40 is a very limited production image car. If it was that big of a deal, Chevrolet would have already answered the Viper call, which, after all these years, they have not. No, not even the Z06 is in Viper territory.

I agree, I’d love to see another high-revving 32 valve engine, or perhaps a factory twin turbo option, made by Lingenfelter. Even though it breaks the simple pushrod V-8 tradition, I think the LT5 was the best engine ever found in a Corvette.

The Vipers have been waving their hands at Vette's since 96'. GM has had PLENTY of time to get balzy and get som SERIOUS power out there. Now the GT is comming with suposed 500hp/500lbs-ft. The 2003 Cobra is make oogles of power. I think it's time for the Corvette to get back into shape. I don't think people would mind a gas-guzzler tax to be able to whup the Vipers, Cobras and now the GT. :mad

Look, it's real simple. Ford can't get their mod motors to make any power without help (eg. blower, ford knows this). Let's just kill them at their own game. We all know the LS-1 style small block chevy is far superior to the Ford mod motor as far as power potential. Toss a blower on a ZO6 and walla, we can now compete with just about anything. Unfortunately I don't see anyway the RAT will make a return unless emmissions are abolished. That very large bore isn't any help to it's emmissions characteristics, if you have been paying attention to the late model engine trend, you'll notice that the cylinder bores have been getting smaller and smaller over the years.

73 LS-4-Dittos :yesnod: :yesnod: :yesnod: , In additions this, Mustangs engineers still haven't figure out how to transfer the power to the ground. I wish I could get $100 bucks everytime I see a Mustang fish tailing down the track. 5.0's had this problem and the new gens Mustangs as well.
