1979 LS-6
Hello,
I bought a 1979 corvette with no motor or trans. It is candy apple red with mirrot T- tops. It is in great condition no cracks or chips. I am putting a LS-6 454 big block in it. Well my question is how many people have an LS-6 1979 vette? an how many think it is a good idea
Thanks,
daren

I think it's a great idea. I saw one this last summer at a car show locally.
The owners bought it already installed but it didn't run. They got it running and
dressed it up and now they have a nice car. Steve

I think it is a great idea. What kind of tranmission are you going to run in it? A ROD 5 or 6 speed would make a great choice. This could be a pain if you need to convert to clutch; but, much easier to install the trans with the bolt up crossmember the automatics use.

How many people have an LS-6 79 vette? Never heard of one, nor seen one! You will be unique!! Massvette put a 502 in his 79 - pretty radical machine!! If anything, I believe the LS-6 might go in a little easier... ? It can take the standard mechanical fuel pump. MJ

THe tranny will be a 400 turbo. 12, .5, 1 pistons, sheel rods, full floters, thermo quad carb, hi rise intake, and much more. Will run on Cam 2

BBC are real nice in C-3's! (or in any other 'Vette).....the C-3 is the only Corvette platform designed from the getgo by GM for the Big Block.
It's just meant to be, IMHO............

Re: 1979 LS-6 (1979LS-6corvette)
I started out the same way. I bought a 75, pulled the smallblock before immediately after getting the car home, bought a LS-6 and dropped it in. Things got out of hand and look what I ended up with.
That is still my LS-6 with different heads, cam, pistons, a 8-71 blower and 2 850 double pumpers.
I started with the original 400, switched to a 700R4 and after blowing up 3 of them switched to a mustang T5 then to the present mustang Tremec TKO. I had 4.11 gears up removed them this fall because of total lack of traction and installed the stock 3.08 try to be able to at least use 3rd gear without loosing it.
Good luck and it is a nice swap.

Re: 1979 LS-6 (1970LS6)
I think the factory '70 LS6 was the best street motor ever made for a car! The same heads, cam, and compression of the 427 425hp and 435hp engines; but, with an extra 30-40# of torque. The single 4 barrel is probably a better performance setup than the gorgeous looking tri-powers.
If you run a true cold air induction system, you should be able to get by on premium unleaded unless you are making continuous high power runs. You would then need race gas. I have been amazed at how well my L88 with 12:1 runs on pump gas. A quart of "Lead Supreme 130" per tank takes care of my octane requirements unless I am doing numerous full power pulls. A 9.5:1cr motor with modern cam makes as much or more effective cylinder pressure as an 11:1 motor with the L71/LS6 cam.
