Estimate of buyers of c3 cold air intakes
Im doing this as a project for my ENGR 1050 class at LSU. Estimate how many buyers across the globe would purchase a cold air intake system to fit our c3 1968-1981 carburated cars.
There were 575,962 cars produced between those years, how many of those cars would want cold air intakes today?
(Please be generous, Im trying to sell this idea to my teacher for an A)

Id be more than interested, but I'd like to see final pics, and power gains 1st. 73's and 74's had cold air induction...

First you'd have to come up with the actual size of your market. How many of the C3s ever produced are still on the road and, of them how many are owned by people who, demographically speaking, regularly purchase auto performance/appearance upgrades?
Sounds to me like you better hit the DMV and SEMA.

My '77 already has a cold air intake. If I could buy a better one I would. :yesnod:

The 73-75's already had a cowl induction setup that works fairly well, So I personally wouldn't be in the market.

Not unless you had one to fit duel fours in my configuration. :p:
How many of the corvettes on the road still are runnung a stock carb and intake? Those that are stay very close to stock.

cold air, I'm not so sure about, but I'd love to get a ram air setup

Not a bad idea. I prefer the low hood; but need the cold air for the L88 so I must use the big hood. I would use my LS6 lowrise manifold instead with the regular BB hood if I had a true cold air package with enough volume to feed the L88.
Don't let the fact that the majority of the cars wouldn't buy such an aftermarket item. If it works, there will be enough demand to make some money. Hooker doesn't have a set of side pipes on every Vette either, maybe 1/10th of the c3's, but they still market it at a profit.

i also have the L88 hood with cowl intake. Since any other source of air would be lower, and subject to hydrolock, anything lower would be inferior, (but would still sell
Stock L88 cowl can't be improved upon for small blocks, bb may be another story due to higher engine

The stock setup on my '79 is a dual snorkel cold air intake. A very good design for its day and age. And as someone else said, those who have a stock intake tend to keep it. At car shows, people prefer to see a clean stock system rather than an open filter unit; i.e., Edelbrock or similar.
However, there's still a huge market for your product because there are so many C3's running around with open filters. Go to a car show and you'll see what I mean!

Re: Estimate of buyers of c3 cold air intakes (JA-82-2)
Lets calculate this....
I believe you can expect a 1% HP increase for every 15 degrees you cool the air. I just happen to have an air temp sensor on my intake, so I can tell you that air coming in my air cleaner (non-stock, open style) is regularly greater than 160 degrees (my guage stops at 160). So if I could get some 90 degree air in there, that's approximately:
165 deg - 90 deg = 75 deg / 15 deg = 5 % HP increase
5% x 400 HP = 20HP gain from fresh air system!
I'll take it!
BTW - an interesting observation is that cruising speed doesn't seem to affect under hood air temps as much as engine rpm.

Re: Estimate of buyers of c3 cold air intakes (C3Vettesrock)
Well I'd buy one.
My current setup is very close to the top of the hood and probably makes little use of the cowl induction hood. When I come to a stop those headers throw a LOT of heat into the engine compartment and the only "fresh" air being introduced is coming through the 180+ radiator. If I could get a free flowing air setup that doesn't suck hot air from the engine compartment I'd be a happy camper.

Re: Estimate of buyers of c3 cold air intakes (Cookwithvette)
For some reason, I was under the impression that with a carb you wanted warm air to mix with the fuel, and you wanted cold air with fuel injection.
Any truth to this, or have I just been smokin too much crack lately? :-)
