Need some clutch advice
Replacing the clutch pressure plate and throwout in my 69 427 car. I have used the Hays street strip Borg & Beck 11" kit in every GM car for 30 yrs. Well that kit is crazy expensive now - around $450. Looking for what has worked well for you - for great all around STREET use.

I like the Mcleod line up, and presently have a super street pro, but if I were making slightly less power, I'd probably go with the LUK. Its the stock clutch for all the big power cars of the day whether it be a GS 455 or a LS6 454.

Yes I agree on the solid (non magnetic) bronze pilot. "Change it every time you see it" haha. So is there a HD LUK kit or just get whatever they have?
Hays used to have a rebuild service too for both discs and PP, about $125 - both times I did that deal I swear they just sent me a new kit instead of my old parts (the plating looked too good). But they don't do it any more

Excellent quality....and nice pedal feel....not too stiff......organic/ceramic disc.
Somewhere on here is a thread where Lars did a compression/release check on the pressure plate with an indicator and it was spot on.

What is wrong with needle baring pilots? You do understand that if you actually dial in your bell housing to less than .002 the the tranny input shaft is not even touching the the baring? I take the time to take a few thou off of the allen locking dowel pins to get as close to "ZERO" offset.

I've had good luck with the Centerforce Dual Friction. Doesn't cost much. Low pedal effort and can handle the power. It worked great with my 427 and was able to hang with the 540 until I got past the 800 HP range.
While there's nothing wrong with a GOOD bronze bushing...I've used the GOOD (Lakewood) needle ones for years without any issue.

And I use a steel needle bearing that comes with the TKO 600 kit. They don't want any play in the transmission output shaft to the engine

I just installed a SPEC clutch and aluminium fly wheel. They are great to work with the the quality is top shelf.
I had a Ram but that POS only lasted 15,000 miles. It was a stock unit but couldn't handle the HP my modified ZZ4 is putting out.

Truth be told, Im yet to drive my Super Street Pro, as Im in the midst of a drivetrain swap, but I have certainly tested it with my left foot. If I recall the pressure plate is the same as the Street Pro I used to have.
I fully expect this clutch to stand up to my new motor, and it was priced right.

Melting Slicks
I am in the process of putting in a mild(400 H.P.?)small block in my '74. My buddy said the pressure plate was fine but I should go ahead and replace the disc and throwout bearing. All I can find is complete kits. Anyone got part numbers for what I need?

Honestly, at the price of that LUK kit, I'd buy the set and have the flywheel resurfaced. It will handle that power.

Your M21 is 26 spline, and depending on whether your flywheel is for 11" clutch or 10.5" clutch will dictate the correct model. 04020 or 04019
