Calling all Auto meter guys
Hello there
I need to know which guages you used ( size, style, Elec/Mechanical,and part number if you have them.)
I think that is one of the coolist mods you can do to this car but I am on a limited budget and can't aford to just go out and buy all of them so I need to do it slowly. But I also don't want to find out when I got to do this mod that I bought the wrong gauge over a year ago and can't return it for the one I want.
This would be a big help thanks

Aaron76-
I used Autometer's Pro Comp 5" in dash electronic speedometer and Tach. The speedometer is programmable and goes up to 160 MPH and has a push button calibration. It requires 500 to 400,000 pulse/mile. I decided to used a electronic speedo because I didn't want to hassle with drilling a hole in the tail shaft to relocate the Vss transducer, thus leaving an opening for the gear to drive the original analog speedometer. Replacing the speedo and tach left me without signals, high beam and e- brake indicators. I move all of them to the center console. I replaced the head lamp indicator with the e-brake and the door ajar with the high beam. I installed the signal indicator on the plate above all of the gauges. See the pictures. I installed a security lamp ( VAT Alarm) in the same area. I replaced the seat belt indicator with the "service engine " indicator.

Re: Calling all Auto meter guys (Aaron76)
You cannot make a straight electrical swap from an Ammeter to a Voltmeter.
The ammeter is connected in series with the current flow or directly in line with current and measures current flow. The voltmeter makes a parallel connection from V+ and a connection to V- and measures voltage.
Because of the wiring differences, it is not a direct swap. You would need to connect the old ammeter in/out wire connections together very solidly ( nut/bolt) and insulate them and then make new connections for the voltmenter from battery V+ to chassis V- in correct polarity, then it will work.
A Voltmeter is safer than an ammeter due to much less current flow through the meter.

My Speedo is the clip type so does that mean it will just clip on to the new speedo.

BTW - replacing the Speedo cable is pretty easy.... It shouldn't take more then 10 minutes...

Hello Aaron 76,
I used the phantom series with 5'' mech speedo and 5'' elect. tach and replaced all center guages with all elect. phantoms .I haven't posted any pics on the forum (I dont know how).I am trying to figure that out now that I have some pics..If nothing else let me know and I can E-Mail some to you.

I hate to be picky, but it took me a minute to realize what you were talking about, especially since the mistake was repeated & quoted by others:
1968 is commonly abbreviated as '68
You wrote 68' which means 68 feet long. I was having a tough time envisioning any kind of routing under the car that would require 68 feet of speedo cable. :D

Hey What made you go with the "phantom" series instead of the "ultra lite" they are both white face and have the different bulb covers, becides that I can't find much more of a difference. is there anything I am missing.
Thank you
PS Which covers did you use?

I think it was the black bezel Vs. silver bezel for me - also I think in reality the ultra-lite is a silver back guage but I could be wrong
