Default BigBlock and headers, what are you using for alternator and PS mounts?

The stock alternator mounts dont work with aftermarket headers. The power steering pump is also directly bolted into the same assembly. Ive had to make spacers for the brackets and wound up shearing two bolts last month. What are you guys running for alternator and power steering mounts/brackets? Im looking for an affordable aftermarket solution.

Scottd, I am using the original brackets and pulleys from my original GM crate LS7 454.
One thing I did have to do was elongate the bolt hole for the alternator bracket that goes into the first header bolt on the #1 exhaust port. Because my aftermarket AFR heads have raised exh ports.
I am using washers and spacers to get the geometry correct for the PS and Alternator line up.
Do you need pics or reference to another thread to review?
What heads do you have?

Im running stock heads. The original alternator bracket bolts to the side of the old exhaust manifold (which was an inch thick) Now that Im running headers, I have to make up the gap and its causing me issues. If anyone has pictures of their setup, Id appreciate it. Ive obviously been doing something wrong all these years, maybe missing a washer or spacer or something. I want to mount the alternator and PS pump separate of that last header bolt.

I've got Brodix heads that don't have a provision for that side mount bolt at all. My bracket is a cast iron one like they used on Chevelle's and Camaro's and bolts to end of the head. I just removed that leg.

My PS uses the generic "cradle" GM bracket for the main mount and a small aftermarket straight one for the top part. The pump is driven off the crank/water pump like normal and the alternator is driven off the P/S pump like normal.

It's a rock steady arrangement and the belts have never come off even at 8000+ RPM!

I will send you some tonight.
But yes, u will need a steel spacer hollow steel tube spacer or some washers to get it to set back off of the first exhaust port bolt. You might mind you will need a spacer for the alt bracket at the other side to get it to line up with ps pump pulley.
And listen to 427hotrod. If anybody has tested beyond the possible, it would be that guy..

No issue with Hedman on mine. I used a couple of washers.

SO, I guess I have several more questions and comments.
1) I hate the original bracket system and really dont want to go back to it.

2) I have this bracket laying around. What more do I need to make it work? It cant operate as a standalone, as there will be nothing supporting the front.

3) This is the gap I have from the alternator bracket to the header. (header currently removed, but they are usually about 1/4 inch thick) Are you guys saying just run some washers as spacers? Because I was running a nice metal spacer and I think thats what caused the bolt to snap off in the head to begin with. Just use washers and a longer bolt??

Is there a cheap aftermarket alternative to mount both the alternator and PS pump separate of each other that will work with this car? I did a quick search on Summit and there didnt seem to be much.

Default Well....THIS may be causing me some problems.....

I started mocking up the brackets tonight to see if maybe Id left out a washer or a spacer or such. Then I found this on my PS/ALT bracket. Funny< i noticed this last time but figured 'meh, it will all tighten down'. SO....replace this bracket and run a longer bolt and washers on the very first header bolt?

Another vote for the March serpentine system. It uses a regular water pump (without AC) and remote reservoir PS pump (required on Corvette per March).

Gents, what part of 'Im looking for ECONOMICAL' dont you understand!

The serpentine belt you are showing me costs over 500 bucks! For that kind of money I could buy a new car!

All kidding aside....Id LOVE to replace the power steering and alternator brackets with aftermarket kits, but I cant find anything in my price range (that seems t fit). If you have any suggestions (in the 100-200 dollar market...) let me know.
Otherwise, I think Im stuck replacing the worn out bracket and running washers/spacers with a longer bolt in the first exhaust bolt.

Well, I guess I shouldn't tell you I'm running the March system with A/C, P/S, Alt and it works very well. And it's not $500, it's more like $2100

Oh, and Hooker Super Comp coated headers

I know that feeling as well but I have learned one valuable lesson from working on my car for 20+ years.

"Buy once, cry once". Trying to save a little bit now usually costs more down the road having to redo the job.

Another option:
http://www.kwikperf.com/bbc_serp_kit.html

$149 kit that lets you use GM serpentine parts that you can find in a junkyard.

I have Hooker Supercomps - just used stock brackets - stock header stepped stud with bolt head - or as others suggest use a stack of washers or longer stud instead of bolt and simply run a nut up the thread.

I used Jones Racing big block Chevy pieces with a few updates to mount alternator on passenger side and slide PS up. This is an older picture with CS130, have since updated to CS144. PS pump is Saginaw TC style w/Lee aluminum resv. mounted to it.

I don't have a pic right now...but I'm using this lower bracket. Not using the rear part..might have worked but I didn't have one. I just used some universal slotted flat bracket I had laying around.

This is what I have for alternator lower. As I said my heads don't have the bolt holes for the side leg. I just removed it and use the bolts in end of the head. I just used one of the chrome universal flat one for the top. I'm using a small Nippondenso alternator, but it fits with the GM brackets.
