Mine was cut on the bottom right down the middle. You can then push the two half's together for more room.

I made two aluminum plates to keep them together using a screw and Tee to fasten them together.

You can see some of the screws here.

when you say "was" does that mean you inherited the mod?
i really don't see the "seam" but do the "halves" Push/flex in together to facilitate/allow for a quick removal without resorting to moving the radiator?

Yeah, you just remove everything on the front of the block, remove the hood and radiator, and then it just slips right out.

I'm hoping that he was being sarcastic, because I think it's a PITA to remove.... Will be watching this thread!

The 2 piece fan shroud is the definition of Bubba.

Cutting the shroud is Bubba, but I recommend it. You only cut the bottom of the shroud, it allows the bottom to "fold in". I did mine like Dawson, cut the bottom and make a plate to join the two sections together. You do it with the shroud out of the car.

I just replaced the Bubba cut up one in my car with a nice unmolested one.

Just remove the fan and water pump and they come right out. And no, you don't have to take the hood off.

That's my definition of horrible engineering. I don't call taking parts off my engine to remove a freaking fan shroud easy. It's a stupid design (and yes I have an engineering degree).

Sorry I may be bubba, but modifying a horrible design to make my car easier to work on was something I was willing to do. I cut the top and bottom of the fan shround in two using a cutoff wheel. It's not very noticeable unless your looking for it. Top half comes right out now WITHOUT taking my engine apart. Makes working on accessories and the front suspension easier.

If you have A/C, taking the shroud out is a PITA. And taking out the other stuff that will make it "easier" is also a pain. That area of the car was designed for ASSEMBLY....not for DISASSEMBLY.

It's your car, so you can do what you want with it. If someone calls your 're-engineering' of a stinkin' fan shroud BUBBA, so what????

Sometimes I think Bubba designed these cars and anyone who doesn't improve them is bubba, so there! Just kidding, Gm was done with it when it left the factory, it's yours now, do with it as you please.

Yeah, and you have to take the intake manifold, heads, and oil pan off to take the pistons and rods out, right? Isn't life a bitch?
