Shark pass side rearview mirror install
Can anyone direct me to a place I can find instructions to install a rear view mirror in the right hand door for a 74 Vette? I have the mirror but I am a little hesitant to just drill some holes and hope they are in the right place. My Chevy manual does not seem to mention this install and I have not had much luck so far in my search for info. I hope someone out there knows how this is done. Thanks, Wells

I picked up a kit from Mid America Corvette several years ago, The kit had the installation fastners in it for both side. I bet if you look in their catalog, get the part number for the kit and give them a call - I lost the instructions or I think you can buy just the install kit. On mine they have been tight since install.

When I bought my passenger mirror it came with a template to tape onto the car, showing where to drill the holes. Drilling into the body, realizing that there is no room for error, is always exciting.

Worse comes to worse, make your own template. Just take you driver side mirror off then use a piece of paper to mark the holes and trace the edges of the top and front of the door. Then flip it over and use it on the passenger side. Make sure you flip is over, you need the mirror image. Might want to do that since I imagine not all mirros are in the exact location on each car.

But he's not stupid. That's what I did and it worked like a charm. Both sides are mirror images of each other (no pun intended).

Sorry, I sent my template out into the CF community after I finished mine ( http://users.erols.com/jerryp58/corv...ightmirror.htm ).
I'm sure someone will come up with one for you.

Hi Ed,
Yes I have a printer. If you could send me a copy of the template, that would help a lot. Thanks, Wells

DRilling into the door! Sounds scary. I have thought about this myself. The Vettes I have seen w/ both look very good. Not to mention the safety factor when changing lanes.

Re: Shark pass side rearview mirror install (wellsw)
OK now I have the template and see how and where I should drill the holes. My install kit has no instructions with it and I am curious what keeps the whole thing from coming out. I have 2 black plugs with threads inside them which I guess you stick into the holes after drilling. What keeps these in place? Has anyone ever done this install? I'm anxious to put this mirror in but still a little nervous about drilling into the body. Thanks, Wells

When you tighten the screws in the black rubber nuts the nut is pulled towards the door panel and the rubber expands against the inside of the door. Once tightened properly they wil not come out until the screws are removed.

Thanks Roger,
I didn't think of that, your reply makes a lot of sense. I will proceed with confidence now that I know how it works. Wells

I would also appreciate a copy of the template if any one has one. I have a NOS Mirror for the passenger side but no template or fasteners for the door.

Hi Bob,
I will send you a copy of the template I received from Ed T. Print them and then trim to fit together and tape them before attaching to the car. The mounting kit is available from Corvette America part #23762 or I think you can get individual parts if you don't need the whole kit. Wells :seeya
