Chevy BB Crate Engine, 572 ci/620 hp
Just watching "Trucks!" on TNN and they have a chevy big block crate engine that is 572ci dynoed at 620hp and 650 ft lbs torque. This on 9.0 compression and 93 octaine gas. Brand new, they got the first one. They did not say what the cost will be.
Gotta have me one of those!!!!! :yesnod:  :yesnod:

Taped it but haven't seen it yet. I would definitely like to find out more info. I just wonder about our stock frames and that much torque.

Is the block domensions the same as a Gen 5 (454/502) ?
They were using a TCI built TH400 trans with an overdrive unit.

Yeah, so? Big blocks suck on the street... but with 9:1 is it begging for a blower and being a simple setup for a drag car.

With 650 ft/lbs of torque, you'd better have one hell of a independent rear end setup in a vette to stand up to that

Haven't seen the show but GMPP is coming out with a 572 crate engine. Wonder if that is the one they are talking about. Pretty sweet engine from GM.

Wow, that sounds like a nice engine! I bet the price will be way up there if they really use the tall deck bowtie block. That block sells for around $2400 completely bare.
4.5" bore and 4.5" stroke for a "square" engine.

I saw it and the thing is supposed to be the same deminsions of the previous big blocks and will drop right in place. They are going to be running it through a built TH400 and a GearVendors overdrive unit.

Re: Chevy BB Crate Engine, 572 ci/620 hp (Schmucker)
I'm looking forward to seeing GMPP bring this to market. Look at how well the 502 has fared both as a crate engine and a basis for aftermarket and personal buildups. With 572", GM is certainly raising the bar!
Schmucker, OK I'll bite. Care to share with us why you think big blocks suck on the street? I think they're great on the street. It all of course depends on how you build, tune and maintain it, but that can be said about any engine, big or small. Mine for example is slanted towards maximum performance, but I drive it frequently. Over the past 5 days I've put an excess of 800 miles on the car, including 45 minutes of stop and go traffic in 90F weather while maintaining coolant temp below 195F. Granted I only get 11 - 12 mpg, but I've had small blocks that don't do much better. Chuck Harmon got better than 16 mpg with his impressive L88! There are MANY on here with big blocks from mild to wild, and don't hear much about how they "suck on the street".
Yes I know this is a discussion board and we are all entitled to our opinions. But I think your statement was off base.
Oger, LOL!
Take care,
Mark

It should do in an IRS in about ten feet.

Some people just like to make an a** out of themselves in public. I just drove 800 in two days, and I wouldn't trade my big block for anything. I went with a bunch of newer Vettes on the Cam Am Caravan, and through the wonderful Ohio backroads, I was able to run stretches of 40-50 miles without shifting more than 2 times. You just can't beat the torque.
If this guy just wants to start arguments, this isn't the forum for it. "big blocks suck" is not constructive, there's no evidence or explanation, nothing but hot air. :bs
