Default 1980 4-speed

Is there more than one type of 4 speed possible in a 1980 model?

Seems like I have read there were 2 different ones. Don't remember though. If so, how do I tell which one I have?

Thanks

Only one I could find, if it is the original transmission. Wide ratio 2.88:1, 1st gear.

You may be referring to the three used in 78-79 but by 80 only one was installed when requested.

the 78-79's had 2 manual tranny's for the L-82-wide ratio and close ratio. The L-48's had only a wide ratio and it was different from the wide ratio in the L-82-not as strong as the L-82's wide ratio.

I think the confusion is with some sites listing 2 manual transmission options for 1980, the MM4 wide ratio, and an optional M21 close ratio. http://www.motorera.com/corvette/1980/vet80.htm

As far as I know, only the MM4 was offered for 1980.

In 1980 the manual trans used was a Borg Warner Super T10 with an aluminum housing for weight reduction, which was it's weak point. Okay, for the stock engine though.

Take a look at this which was referenced above by Karol in the the earlier post:

http://www.pontiacpower.org/BW.htm

All 74-81 corvettes with a manual transmission had an aluminum casing-wide ratio or close ratio. The stock close ratio and wide ratio with the 78-79 L-82's is good for about 350 Gross HP, more HP as long as you don't drop the clutch at 4,000 RPM! The wide ratio manual used with the L-48 was much weaker than the wide ratio used in the L-82's.
