Default Front coil alignment

When installing front coil springs on a 1978 Corvette do you have to align the top of the spring to the top of the shock tower? I am putting in my front springs lining up the bottom where it looks like a stop to where the coil ends. After getting it jacked up and the ball joint connected it does not look centered in the tower ( kinda forward ant toward the outside) do I need to get the top lined up some how?

Hi,
The top of the spring should be seated so that the cut end of it can be seen through the small observation hole in the spring pocket in the frame. This puts the end of the spring about .38" from the stop.
This info is from the 71 AIM; I'd think it would still be true for 78.
Regards,
Alan
