Positive Battery Cable
Does anyone have a photo of the positive battery cable running from the box to the starter. I'm replacing mine (currently runs through exhaust hole in the frame...car came that way). I have the diff and drive shaft out of the car so I can access the drive tunnel but I can't tell where the clips attach (the assembly manual isn't real clear either other than the cable runs down the drive tunnel).
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

What year are you working on?
The cable on my '70 runs along the right side of the transmission tunnel, secured by a series of clips. Sheet A10 of the AIM has a nice schematic of its routing.

I don't have a picture, but on my '77, the cable runs up the transmission tunnel on the drivers side and then crosses over to the passenger side maybe half way up the length of the transmission. You should see some tapped holes on the bottom of the tunnel where the clips go.

It's a 72 and I have the assembly manual. It's just not clear to me, in looking at the tunnel, where these clips attach.

Ok, I'll take another look with that in mind.

Hi R,
In 72 the positive cable runs on the right (passenger's side) of the tunnel.
You'll likely just see the studs if the cable hasn't been routed correctly.
The cable, and the studs that the cable clips mount to, run behind the foil heat insulation as it nears the front of the tunnel.
Good Luck!
Regards,
Alan
The routing is shown on UPC 12, Sheet A 10 in the AIM. The drawing is skewed so that you're looking THROUGH the fiberglass under-body from above. View A shows what the studs and clips look like.
You can see the first stud on the right side of the tunnel in this pic.

I took another peek under the car a minute ago and it's just not obvious how this thing runs down the tunnel without drooping down on the drive shaft. I don't see any studs that the Clips mount to but I'll keep looking. Maybe it's right in front of me and all the energy I used up cutting the trailing arms out is blurring my vision. Stepping away and coming back another day.

Hi R24,
It's VERY possible that the nuts that hold the clips on were so rusted that when someone tried to remove them the stud was twisted off flush with the body.
Look for signs of 2 flat rivets that would have held each stud plate in position.
The plates are probably still in the interior of the car under the carpet.
Regards,
Alan
Here you can see the cable running along side the drive shaft and one of the clips (barely) to the rear of the seatbelt reinforcement bracket.
This is looking toward the rear of the car.

Here's a thread on the possibility of changing the cable with the trans in place
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c3-t...ery-cable.html
Not as nice and clear as Alan's but here's a slightly visible clip and stud
and the clip above the driveshaft

Very helpful Mooser, thanks! BTW - what are those two silver prong looking things on either side of the tunnel?

The cable is virtually impossible to get the middle two nuts off with the auto in place. I finally did it last year while the trans was out and ran a new cable.
