68 "Stingray" badge mellow-drama...

I was told that for every stingray emblem you add to car you gain 10hp. everyone I talk to refers to all corvettes as stingray from 68 to 82 and some 85's too lol. I too had an iroc and many people thought there was a big difference between that and a "regular" z28 but my understanding is they started the iroc badges cause they were cheaper than porshes to tune and handle in different categories of racing some people don't even know what iroc means they just like Em better and my understanding of it was that all z28 from 85 to 91 are iroc whether badged or not. The new stingrays don't even have stingray emblem they are using the little tadpole thing which I think is cool a little homage to the first sting rays. All in all its the body style and lines people love about our cars from the chrome to the ugly bumperEttes to the modern looking sleek bumpers of late c3. My 76 for instance people ask me if it's a big block send faster than the regular corvettes of time just because it's a stingray like if it was a zr1 badge I wish.

I`ve always associated "Stingray" (or Sting Ray) with a body style, not a fender badge.
Definition of "expert"....
"ex" is an un-known.
"spert" is a drip under pressure.

If this doesn't prove just how silly this whole argument is, then I give up.

All I know is I have a 1968 that will plant your *** in the seat. That is all that matters to me A Corvette is a Corvette and we should all be proud we have and drive one. Just to kick the can my car doesn't have Chevrolet on it anywhere so is it a Chevrolet or just a Corvette by Chevrolet

I took my 79 for gas one time and had the gas jockey say "Nice Stingray". I didn't feel any need to correct him and in fact when I repaint it I'm planning on putting the Stingray trim on it.

Anyone has complete rights to call THEIR car anything they choose.
No one has any right to argue about what someone else calls their own car.
Get over it.....

the "sting ray" name was used till the end of 67. thereafter it was " stingray". i was told chevrolet had issues and rushed the first 68 corvettes to production. the first 68 models were convertibles or " roadsters" as they tried to use a one piece top with no center bar and had to tool up for the hatch roof.
To my knowledge, the 68 coupe was always intended to have the center bar, and two piece tops. The Mako Shark show car, had a hinged one piece top, but I have never seen where it was ever seriously considered for production. The coupe and convertible, were both introduced at the same time, but I think coupe production was delayed, because of engineering and supplier issues. Again, related to the strikes etc., that delayed the actual cars introduction, by one year.

Its your car. You could even get a couple of those cute little snake emblems with the word "Cobra" underneath and put them on your fenders if you want to.
I wouldn't go on any of the Ford forums and mention that you did that though.

The Chevy ad ends the discussion. A 68 is a Sting Ray because Chevy called it that, doesn't matter if it had a Sting Ray emblem or not. Sorry to disappointment the stubbon 68 owners.
