Default advise dual quad set up

Good afternoon all
Looking to do a winter project on my 1980 350 L48. I Have headers with dual exhaust, 1106 Edelbrock with 1406 Edelbrock. I'm planning on putting in a mild cam kit along with Edelbrock Dual Quad set up. The dual quad will have a slip linkage so the second carburetor only kicks in when you want it to. Looking for a different but mean look with the hood open and a little meaner when the hoods closed.

Does anyone know if I'll have to cut a hole in the hood to clear the air cleaners and any other advise on this project. Any advise will be deeply appreciated, thanks
Gary

My advise (which is worth $4.28 in some States) is don't waste your time and money on dual quads for a 1980 L-48. Sorry.

Really, for what you're doing, it's more of an 'appearance' mod and has little to do with the performance of the car. Most 'Gearheads' would see right through this and call 'bogus' on it. Now if you dropped something north of 400 to 500 horsepower in the bay, then you might be onto something.

Save the money and get a 400 + hp complete crate engine for $3500 to $4000 and really go have fun.

Corvettes have pretty low hoods, brother. I don't see a dual quad setup fitting under a stock hood. Way to much carburation, anyway, if you insist on a dual quad, go with a couple of Holley 390s.

A single four barrel carburetor makes more power and you'll go nuts trying to set up all those barrels.

I agree with all of the above about function, but you have to admit that the cool factor is off the chart with a 2x4 setup done correctly.

First page in the Holley Performance book..
If you are looking for Power, easy setup and drive-ability, stay away from exotic carb setups.

But i must admit.. It looks nice with a lot of carburetors there on the top.

3x2 is a better combination...for appearance, performance, AND for economy. You normally run on the center carb...end carbs only come in after about 70% (or more) throttle. 2-barrel operation for idle and cruising; 6-barrel operation for power.

No balancing carbs and (IMO) better BLING.

The Edelbrock 2x4 setup is pretty forgiving. A buddy put one with 2x 500's on a literally junkyard 302 Ford with a set of TFS heads and a E303 Ford cam. Very mild combo. The thing ran great (mid/high 12's) and drove fine. I drove and raced it a few times and it never bogged or hesitated.

Is it the perfect thing for what you've got.....I'd put the money on a good set of heads first......

You think a dual quad or tri-power setup is cool? I have this fantasy about using 8 side-draft Mikuni motorcycle carbs on a sbc.....now THAT would be cool looking......

nothing new. This thing is available since the 60´s.

Never saw this on a Vette in real life, and I have been on many meetings. Maybe some day...

Very cool, indeed, but still only 4 carbs. What I'm thinking about would look similar, but have 8 distinct, separate carbs, along with the necessary throttle linkages. It would be a nightmare to tune, but I'm sure a good motorcycle mechanic could do it.

Couple it with a 4-pattern cam and individual O2 sensors... and you'll have something crazy.

from someone who once had a 283 with 6 stromberg 97 carbs i can assure you even when you get all 6 running correctly it is a waste of time. if you want something to look cool go for it if you want to actually drive and enjoy it keep it simple. or have both and spend 6 k on an electronic Hillborn set up.

Since we already are way offtopic..

I had a good look at these fuel injection systems and they look quite nice actually.

http://stackinjection.com.au/main-gr...ck-system.html

Thety have exept all the benefits of a 8-stack system also a built in vacuum chamber witch links all runners together with small ports allowing for good vacuum for brake booster and a nice idle.
