ZZ 427 questions/opinions
Giving lots of thought to removing the 435 HP and installing a ZZ427. Car is NOM as it was born with a 390 HP 427. Would be nice to have the new engine with the upgraded technology.
I would like to keep the 3 deuces realizing the ZZ has oval ports will buy a 400 HP tri-power intake. Is the ZZ a standard deck block so the Hooker side pipes will hook up hassle free?
Would you keep the 435 engine or sell it to fund the ZZ purchase? I can probaly sell the 435 for enough to purchase the ZZ with a few $$$ left over. Summit has a great price on the ZZ. I really don't want an engine in the garage on a stand or under the work bench taking up space. And as the engine is not original to the car there is no strong compelling argumemt to me to keep the 435.

Why not just throw some killer heads on the 435 with a good cam?
Or put a 496 in it..or a 540....or a......
You can get a lot more power with higher quality parts/machining for similar $$$$.

All good suggestions but I don't want a tall deck block and I don't want to change the 427 numbers on the hood and have to re-drill new holes!
You guys are right, 496's, 502's and 572's are killer motors but sometimes with me less is more. The car was born with a 427 and I'd like to keep it that way.
Mainly want to know if the ZZ 427 is a standard deck block and would you keep the L-71 or sell it?
Drove a friends 67 Chevelle with a ZZ427 in it and was very impressed. His car drive train wise is very similar, same trans and rear end ratio.

Summit will not ship a motor to California until they settle with the state about collecting taxes. Jegs will, try them. They will honor summit prices and summits no shipping charges.
My friend just went through this 2 weeks ago.

The zz427, 454, 502 and even the 540 are all standard deck blocks. If you're going to spend the money, why not get the 502? Why would you even consider anything else?
You can't be serious.

you can't be serious about changing emblems.
the zz427 is a nice motor and would serve you well, if you want more power there are better options.
check out this months Hemmings Muscle Machines, Joe Oldham recreated his long since stolen and missing Baldwin Motion " outlaw " 69 Camaro. He used the zz427 and dressed it to look period correct.
it may give you some ideas.

No, I'm not serious about not changing numbers, recognize a bit of humor!
I do in fact subscribe to Hemmings Muscle Machines and read the article about the Camaro.
I'm not after big tire ripping horsepower, rather a bit more than the L-71. Sort of a nice cruiser motor with a bit more kick.
Thanks for the heads up in the Summit not being able to ship into CA.

Why not just do a proper build of your 435? For the price of a crate motor you can get some better quality parts,a nice cam and maybe better heads. But I am NOT a crate motor guy .... we can do better.
