:confused Fed up with electric antennas. Has anyone found a fixed mast antenna that fits in the stock hole on an 81. Every one I have found needs a one inch hole and I don't want to make the hole bigger. HELP!!!!

I know exactly what he means. My electric wouldn't work (bad mast). The kits that I tried absolutely will not fit/fix a stock 1980 antenna. No way, no how. I feel his pain!

Mine came with the CB option. The antenna was broke. There are no replacement antennas available. I ordered a replacement AM/FM antenna from Ecklers but to flush mount it, my hole has to be bigger. I don't want to drill it. Besides, it turned out to be Chinese junk. Going to send it back.

Consider a hidden antenna. They work.

I keep rebuilding my stock 82 power antenna. Move the gears around and replace the nylon mast rod and good to go!

The mast in my antenna is broke thanks to vandals. There is nothing left to rebuild.

I had a '67 with a fixed mast and it worked great. I am in the process of redoing my car and I already figured out that I am going that route again. I will leave everything in place should I decide to go ORIGINAL again, but it's not worth the trouble. Good luck

What doesn't fit about it? I did this repair in an '80 which I would think would be the same for the '81.

I just replaced the antenna in my 80. I got it from Mid-America. Installed it and it just works. you just have take sure the support for the base is in place. I had to use some of that ridged strap with all of the holes in it...

If a person goes the hidden power antenna route, is there a antenna delete one can buy?

Also, there is a flush mount and non flush mount option. I would think flush mount would be preferable, does anybody know which would have been factory on a 1978?

What is the life span on a power antenna before you are rebuilding it or replacing it again, I though about getting a short chrome fixed amplified antenna to go there in it's steed, has anybody seen such a thing?

I put a $11 generic fixed mast antennae on mine.. Bought it from the local auto parts store... Works perfect...

I think they had a 3/4 inch option, and a 1" inch option... I went with the 1"... It is a little bit larger than the actual drop base in the fender... But the black lower trim bezel fills up that space nicely... The first time you drive with it, be prepared to. 'Cinch' it down one more time... This one has an adjustable angle of 35 degrees... Didn't have it tight enough the first go-round...
