Had to drive her in the rain today
:( woke up to a beautiful day, weather said less than 20% rain, so I took her to work.. an hour before I was to get off, it clouded over thunder/lightning, ect :( got home and had to wipe her down with a towel so the water spots wouldn't be so bad :cuss

There's a guy around here that has a awesome 78...black, 454, custom wheels, side pipes, 4" cowl induction hood, etc. and he drives it every day thru the rain and all...but not in the winter snow. He keeps her in the garage then. He's the only owner too, bought the car new from a dealership

Re: Had to drive her in the rain today (Got79Fever)
I can relate. I drove our 75 to church a couple of Sunday evenings ago without a cloud in sight. During the service the storm clouds blew in and I was going to wait it out until it started to hail. I'm like oh my, the wife will kill me and ran for it. I called the kids to open the garage as I came down the drive and fortunately, the hail tapered off just as fast as it came.

Yea been caught a couple of times too. One time I took it to work with the tops off and it rained and had to drive home 28 miles in the rain. Felt kind of dumb leaving in front of the guys at work and a stop lights people were looking at me kind of funny.
A couple of weeks ago watched the forcast in te morning and it no rain and sure enough it rained. :cry

All this talk about rain -
I know that some people have a lot of work and money in their cars, and just want to protect that investment. That's fine.
I'm the kind of person who will drive my vette in ANY weather, including snow. I think I got a few funny looks during the the last snow we had. A lot of cars were sliding, stuck, or couldn't get up hills. Then, here I come in my posi-traction vette, which actually does good in snow, and pass by these helpless cars.
The thing is, I bought my car to enjoy. It is not a show car, but a well cared for daily driver. To have a car that I constantly need to check the 7-day forcast, dewpoint, relative humidity, wind speed, and the alignment of the planets before driving is a car I don't want. I just give my car a good cleaning when needed, and drive without worry.
Please don't get me wrong. There is nothing wrong with being cautious with a nice car, and I'm not making fun of people who do. But, the number of vette owners who fear the rain is staggering. Is it just me?

Well the thing is if you don't drive them in the rain it so easy to keep them detailed outside and under the hood.
I had a Z28 that I drove in all weather and it really took alot of work to keep it perfect. It's kind of nice to have a car that I can pull out every so often and it looks I spent all day detailing it.
Like today I spent half the day polishing the rims, if I stay out of the rain they will keep looking good for a long time.

I'm actually kinda looking forward to driving in some heavy rain, might be fun as long as the cops don't catch me.

I usually don't drive when it's wet simply because I'm a big wimp. :bb In high school I drove the 65 with the top down in the rain. That's when I learned to control a 360 spin, and that if you drive fast enough you don't really get wet. I'm too old for that stuff now, give me the wimpy but safe Saturn for the yucky days. But I do live in SE Texas where you can't see five feet in front of the car when it rains.

Drive mine in all weather except ice! Rain, Snow, shine! Wipe her down a 2 or 3 times a week with diaper cloth. Takes about 5 minutes 'eh. Once a week to the car wash. 45 minutes for that. Most of the time she looks pretty sharp. Bought my car to drive and drive her I do. Do believe that it would suck being caught without the tops in the rain. Have been caught without the rear window.

my 79 has a black interior. im just too lazy to want to detail it after driving in the rain. one advantage of driving in the rain... it rinses off the oil from underneath the body.

Up here in the Pacific Northwest, if you don't drive in the rain...you don't drive. :D
I try to avoid taking the shark out in snow that's over 2" deep 'cause the pipes start dragging, but that's about it. Otherwise, it's an "all-weather" 400hp ride. :)
I'm a reasonably 'visual' person so I wholeheartedly support anyone who compulsively details a piece of automotive artwork because of their demented attraction to shiny objects :D , but the ****-retentive freaks who sunconsciously (or otherwise...) believe that demonstrating neatness and order will somehow validate them in the eyes of society are way beyond my tolerance level. That's why I avoid car shows for the most part - too many museum pieces and too many museum 'curators'. :D

I drive my '77 in the rain all the time, but never in the snow  . By the way it reacts to the rain, I can't imagine snow would be very fun at all.

Mine used to be my daily driver, it saw rain/snow/ice and is one of the best driving cars I have owned. Now that I have a beater it stays inside in the winter because they use tons of salt and cinders here in PA :mad

I will not enter mine in a car show because it is not perfect or at least close. It is odd for me to see a car entered that is not in great shape.
