Default Help with Cam

Hey everyone I've been able to track down information on my vette based on paperwork I found from the PO. I know nothing about cams and i'd like to have someone chime in that may be able to help. The cam that was installed is the Chevy WG-1173 V8 I was able to track this down but it means nothing to me:
Cam Name: Chevy WG-1173 V8
Lifter Type: Hyd
Timing Spec @: Seat-To-Seat
Intake Lift: 0.465
Exhaust Lift: 0.488
IVO: 38
IVC: 72
EVO: 87
EVC: 33
Cam Adv: 0
Intake Duration: 290
Exhaust Duration: 300

Can someone tell me if this is a decent cam? What type of performance compared to stock? This weekend the vette gets a set of hooker super comps and new exhaust throughout, ending in a set of flowmaster delta 40's Hoping this with the rebuild Im doing on the Qjet will net me some decent hp and torque gains. Any thoughts?

Way old Wolverine grind sold by a variety of suppliers. What are the rest of the engine specs?

Looks like you have an old Wolverine Gear " Blue Racer " grind. The specs are 224Int@0.050 234Exh@0.050 and 114 int/exh lobe separation. Wolverine was bought by Crane I believe and these cams were old profiles with decent but not state of the art acceleration ramps and profiles. Duration split is a little bigger than I like to use and lobe separation is a little wider than commonly run ( 108-110-112 separations are more common and give better bottom end ) cam is OK grind but there is probably 10-15HP and lots better fuel mileage in a current design cam.

Stock 350 bored .30 over. Polished and ported, new exhaust going on no cats, and rebuilding the Qjet with a "performance upgrade"

Yeah, the paperwork I found in the car shows that this cam was installed back in 1993. LOL I know it's old, but I figure a lot of these older cars still produced. I plan on pulling the engine out this winter and refreshing it. (new finish, seals etc. ) Perhaps I'll add a new cam

From the timing specs given the lsa is 112 with a 107 intake lobe center and 117 exhaust lobe center. This grind is still around and think crane and edelbrock have them listed. This cam sounds pretty healthy in a mild 350. Timing at .050 on a 112 lsa would be 5-39-54-0 if I did my math correctly!

Wow, i have no idea what I'm doing!!! Most of that means absolutely nothing to me. I'm lost when it comes to this honestly. I'm fairy mechanically inclined and not intimidated by learning new things so I'll dig into the numbers you gave me to understand them better. I'm getting ready to rebuild the carb after reading cliffs book on qjets. Now if I could only figure out this distributor. It's got wires on it which I'm told is for the ECM but it also has a vacuum advance. I'm trying to identify it but not having any luck. I'm assuming I'll just have to buy a new dizzy to go with the cc carb.

I don't either; however if you could post some more details such as year of corvette, engine and trans type, rear end ratio, and usage goals, we can give you better answers. Details please... And thanks for posting.

You might try filling out your profile. There may be a knowledgeable member in your area that could give you a hand.

I think I had that cam in my camaro back in the 90s. Very healthy. I was happy with it.
350 .30 over.

Good to hear! I spoke with Cliff today from the Qjet website. He said it's a healthy cam and that with that setup and the carb rebuilt I should be pleased. Now I just have to wait for the rebuild kit to get here! (and find a distributor that works with this computer)

I would be willing to bet this is the exact same grind, with a little marketing spin:

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/su...make/chevrolet

2400-6000 rpm, should be interesting, if you've got the gear and the converter for it. If you're going from stock manifolds, you should see a noticeable increase in power. Do you know anything about the cylinder heads?

Scott
