Default Rear compartment question

Pulled the interior on my 75 today, had helpers. Going to redo some wiring and insulation.
Found lots of cool stuff, carpet tags, old coins, etc.

Question about the middle compartment, the inside of it is a flat black finish while the outside is the black felt like material. Almost like it was assembled backwards. Any info about this welcome

Looks like that must have been done on a Monday morning.

Inside-out??? Maybe. But, if you do that, the place where the light goes is on the wrong side. Not sure what happened there. But, the flocking should be on the inside of that compartment 'box'.

Anyway, it's a "keeper"! One of these days, someone will have a good explanation for how that came to be.

Hi M75,
Very good first picture!
I agree with 7T1 the flat material for the liner was upside down when it was die cut and the assembler stapled it together the way he always did which put the fuzz on the outside.
Regards,
Alan

That is good protocol, send in the dog and cat in first in case there is a badger or skunk hiding back there.

It is assembled correctly. I'd say it got flocked on the wrong side.

Back before there were pre-assembled repro glove boxes, the ones from Chevrolet, came flat and un-assembled. You had to fold them into the correct shape, and staple them together.

Still it can't be an old GM service replacement one, that someone put together wrong, because the lamp compartment, is in the correct spot. Strange!

The one in my 75 is exactly like yours. The 'fuzz' is on the outside.

I bet the whole stack of these where made wrong, the die stamper did them upside down and the guy who stapled them said to the supervisor hey! Just staple them, nobody will ever know.
