Default Hei distributor

Is there an hei tach drive distributor that will fit on my 72 small blocks stock ignition shielding. Also. Has anyone ever bought a points style distributor from autozone. Lookin to either upgrade to hei or a distributor with a more reliable mechanical tach drive

You can get an aftermarket tach drive HEI; it may not fit under the 72 shielding. You could use 75-77 shielding.

You can also convert your points set up to electronic and keep your originnal distributor.

I do have the pertronix 3 on it. But my distributor needs to be rebuilt. Thought it would be easier to maybe buy a new one

If you install a HEI you will not have a working tach in your 1972.
To get a professional rebuild on your 72's distributor and having a new parts installed to provide a reliable distributor with working tach gear in the distributor you could contact www.tispecialty.com .

On his web page there is good information on how to work on your 72's distributor. Not greasing the tach gear causes problems with the mechanical tack drive. This maintenance procedure is not your owners manual.

Upper bushing lubrication has most likely dried up in your distributor if it has not been serviced.
