Default Custom hoods & fitment & weight & clearances & PICTURES

Well... I did it, got an intake that is to tall for my hood..... So I need to change hoods....
I kind of like the L-88 hood... Did like the twin turbo hoods but maybe not so much now...

Can you post a pic or 3 of your custom hood, and if you know,,, the weight of the new hood as compaired to the old stock one, and extra hight and how much extra clearance under the hood.

Thank you 10000 times:-)

Default Hood

I've always liked the "non" L88 raised hood; to me it's a little cleaner in design. Not much for fake vents. The air box seals on the factory L88 air cleaner base exactly like the other hood; in other words, the dimensions re the air box on this hood are the same. I think Eckler's may still sell them. This one was installed on my 1973 in 1978.

You can't use a stock L-88 like the one posted above. Because you and I both need clearance farther forwards

I'm just hitting the passenger side 14" CAI mid section side... if my hood rise was a little wider it would still work, but where the rise comes down on the passenger side is where it does not clear.

Before and after paint. Vanacor hood- no clue what it weighs, but it's a bunch lighter than the long hood it replaced. BB with a drop base air cleaner, the GM 163 intake and a Demon carb. I can stack 2 3" air filter elements under the cover and still have 2.5 inches to play with.

I ran L-88 hoods on Camaros for years. Even took a cracked ABS one and used it to make a mold and turned out at least a half dozen L-88 scoops that didn't flex the way the ABS ones did. They also weighed more though...It's only fitting my 74 Vette should have one of these. An L-88 hood is on my bucket list! NO scoop looks as good on a C3 than an L-88.

I just figured out the short term fix! Get Bee Jay over at your house to help you cut some holes in your hood.

Sounds like You all ready ordered a new Hood but there is also the option of machining the intake manifold down to make it fit. I took 1 1/4" off my Accel manifold to get it under my Turbo Hood.

What areas did you have machined?Where the carb sits or the whole manifold in general.Doesn't this affect its performance?
