Default Hood insulation

I am looking for ideas and suggestions on what to use on the under hood of my car. I was thinking about using the dynamat hood liner but it is silver so that's out. Anything out there that is black and similar to the Dynamat product?

Why are you insulating under the hood?

To replace the original hood insulation, to cut down on sound and to help the paint last longer on the hood.

A lot of Corvette hoods weren't insulated and they functioned just fine.

My 70 never had any insulation. IIRC there was some on 68/69's, then none on 70-72. Not sure after that.

This subject comes up regularly. I do not consider myself an expert on this, but if the reason the insulation was installed was to protect paint, then how did all the Corvettes who never had insulation not ruin the paint; not to mention the many that did have and had it removed. I certainly don't want the paint or the glass to deteriorate, but it just doesn't make sense. I think it was all about noise....not paint damage.
