Squeaky Brakes are driving me @$)(#$*&@#_$!~
What the hell is wrong with my brakes?!??!
Picture this...I'm in a local cruise near my home....pull up to the stop light and my brakes make a noise the equivlancy of fingernails on a chalk board! ARRRGGGH!
I've had the brakes checked TWICE, the pads are nice and new, rotors are just fine..in otherwords I cannot determine what makes the damn brakes squeal/squeak. It's so annoying and embarassing to hear! It only happens after I've driven it awhile and the brakes are hot.
Is it possible that the pads are glazed?

Had the same problem. it is the semi metallic part of the pad. I switched to organic pads and no more squeaks. might want to give that a try.

You may have got a tiny rock or two in between the pad and rotor. I had that happen once. I also put some plastic shims (from ZIP or Mid American)and the anti-squeek blue stuff that is supposed help hold the pad to the rotor, that seemed to help too.
I have my clutch linkage apart but still might try to make to the cruise this weekend. Having angle problems with the fork and bellhousing.

My relatively new pads are squeaking like crazy. I think they must be semi-metallic, but I was never able to confirm that with ZIP (I bought the 4 caliper combo).
One of these days, I'm going to pull the pads, make sure they're not glazed, and put that anti-squeak goop on the backside of them.
If that does not work, I'm going to buy new organic pads.
It's such a shame they're squeaking too because the thing will stop on a dime
Please post your solution when you find it.

Mine squeak like cazy! I got them hot adjusting the plunger in the MC when I put the car back together. The squeaking makes people look at it when I pull to a light. . Im just too lazy to go through that all day bleeding again..
One of these day's I will change the pads.

My squeaking turned out to be the sides of the metal bracket of the pad chattering against the caliper sides. If you use the antisqueak gunk, the pads warranty usually will be void. (not that that matters much). You would need to get it on the sides of the metal bracket as well.
Corvette Central sells some stick on squeak eliminators that stick to the back of the pads and fold over some on the ends which did the trick for me. Got to clean them real good though.

Mine used to squeak like crazy as well. Even when I was not pressing them - just rolling slowly! I put a thin layer of grease on the brake pins (that hold the pads in place) and that made them stop squeaking for the most part. Every once in awhile I still have a <little> squeak. But I have the Hawk+ pads so I expect that.
Plus I think the squeaks go away after awhile too.
Did you break in the pads properly?

I tride the plastic patches on the back and the anyi-sqeak goop but it always came back until I got a set of organics, That fixed the noise for good.

Re: Squeaky Brakes
Yeah, my back right brake squeels. Might have something to do with it making a little squeak with every rotation. Anyone know what that could be?

I hope it's something simple.

I tried the gadjets and gimmicks (plastic edge pieces, pads on back, grease on back) and the only thing that worked was switching to Raybestos organic pads. Haven't heard a squeek since.

I have the same annoying squeak with new pads, I bought from Zip. Drives me crazy, but I have not tried the shims or "goop".
If you get the desired results from organic pads please let us know.

I went through that nonsense with AC Delco pads for two years. Did the sticky stuff on the back trick, lubing here and there, filing the edges of the pads. You will hear the usual list. Based on a recommendation from a Forum member I bought organic pads from Muskegon Brake. About $20.00 for four wheels. Instant silence. And it has been so ever since.

New pads, rotors, calipers, lines, on the white princess.... squeek when they get warm. :( It must be the type of pads...

If your brakes squeak at low speeds the problem is with the rotors. At low speeds the out of runout rotors move the pads back and forth on the pins making the squeaking noise. You can buy some bandaid fixes but dealing with the rotor runout is the fix. Chuck D
